Dr. Jones is a general surgeon who has special interest in bariatric (weight loss) surgery. He is a member of the NEA Baptist Clinic in Jonesboro, Arkansas, the largest and most comprehensive facility of its kind in the region. As a surgeon in Jonesboro since 1984, Dr. Jones is regionally recognized for his expertise.
During the length of his career, Dr. Jones has been honored with many positions of responsibility and service to the local, state and national medical community. He served in many medical staff governing positions at Methodist Hospital of Jonesboro (now NEA Baptist Hospital) including Chief of Staff. He was Chief of Surgery at Saint Bernard's Regional Medical Center and served as the Cancer Liaison of the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer at that institution. At NEA Baptist Hospital he served on the hospital board from 2010-2014 and was chairman in 2014. He resumed a position on that board in 2019 where he again serves as chairman.
On a state and national level Dr. Jones served as president of the Arkansas chapter of the American College of Surgeons. He has served on the applicant interview committee and served as an advisor to the Health Policy Advocacy Committee for the American College of Surgeons. He is now on the Board of Governors for the American College of Surgeons. He also served as a consultant for the American Board of Surgery re-certification exam committee. As well as being a fellow in the American College of Surgeons, he is a fellow in the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons.
Dr. Jones for three decades was an assistant clinical professor of surgery for the University of Arkansas family practice program and is now a clinical professor of surgery at the Arkansas State University Medical School. He has published in peer reviewed medical journals.
Dr. Jones earned a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Kentucky in 1974. As a Justin Potter medical scholar at Vanderbilt University he received a Doctor of Medicine in 1978. He trained with internship and residency at the University of Louisville and at East Tennessee State University where he became chief resident. He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery.
