GANGNEUNG, SOUTH KOREA, March 18, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Sungjae Yang, MD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Originally intent on becoming an architect, Dr. Yang discovered a love for medicine after suffering from a high school accident that required two surgeries under general anesthesia. After earning a degree in pre-medicine from the College of Natural Science at Chungman National University, he completed a Doctor of Medicine and a Master of Medicine from Chungman National University, as well as a Doctor of Philosophy in medicine from Ulsan University. While embarking upon his first internship, he discovered a love of ophthalmology and pursued a residency in ophthalmology and vitreoretinal fellowship in ophthalmology through Asan Medical Center, as well as an uveitis fellowship in ophthalmology at Casey Eye Institute in Oregon.
Throughout the course of his career, Dr. Yang has gained valuable expertise in the field as a public health doctor with the Kimwha Public Health Care Center and as a faculty member in the Department of Ophthalmology at Sockch Hospital. Drawing on his extensive expertise, he excels today as an associate professor of ophthalmology for the University of Ulsan's College of Medicine and as an ophthalmologist with J's Retina Clinic. Dr. Yang has also served as an investigator in several clinical studies, such as "Afilbercept efficacy in central serous chorioretinopathy treatment" and "Randomized, Sham-Controlled Trial to Assess the Safety and Efficacy of 700 micrograms and 350 micrograms Dexamethasone Posterior Segment Drug Delivery System Applicator System in the Treatment of Patient with Diabetic Macular Edema."
Along with other scholars in the field, Dr. Yang has contributed to a plethora of publications, including "Effect of cataract extraction on frequency doubling technology perimetry," "Fourteen-year review of open globe injuries in an urban Korean population" and "Macular gradient measurement in myopic posterior staphyloma using optical coherence tomography." In order to remain aware of ongoing changes in the field, he aligns himself with the Korean Medical Board, the Korean Academy of Ophthalmology, the Korean Retina Society, the Korean Uveitis Society and the European Vitreoretinal Society.
In light of his outstanding body of work, Dr. Yang has been acknowledged on several occasions, earning the Predominant Medical College Graduate Student Award as the Second Best Graduate in 2000, the Scientific Poster Exhibition Second and Third Awards through the 10th and 12th EVRS Congresses in 2010 and 2012 respectively, and the Best Doctor in Gangneung through Asan Hospital on many occasions. More recently, he was recognized in the Top 10% Hot Topic through the ARVO Meetings in 2015 and 2018. In the coming years, Dr. Yang intends to obtain a hospital position and experience continued success in his career.
