ROME, GA, March 22, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Norris Kenney Allen Sr. has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Throughout the course of his career, Mr. Allen has dedicated himself to others through various industries, including nursing and the ministry, for more than five decades. After being ordained as a Bishop in 1985, he served as a missionary and established the Overcoming Church of God's first Vacation Bible School. He subsequently organized the First Convention Banquet at Redeeming Overcoming Church of God, where he worked as a junior superintendent of the church's National Sunday School. Following this period, Mr. Allen became a pastor at Greater Mount Olive Overcoming Church of God and was ordained as a bishop – a role he maintained for numerous years. Among his many accomplishments, he created the church's Founder's Award, the Presiding Bishop Disability Retirement Fund, the Bishop W. James Thompson Memorial Fund, the National Humanitarian Award and the National Beautification Award. In 1994 he was appointed as the Assistant Bishop of the Overcoming Church of God in America, Inc. In 2002 he was appointed as the Presiding Bishop until 2012.
Lauded as a business professional since coming of age, Mr. Allen served with General Electric for more than 30 years and gained valuable expertise a certified assistant nurse at Floyd Medical Center. In addition to serving as a draftsman and computer tank plate design operator, he was the first Black man to lead the skilled trade dexterous carpenter department at General Electric. Moreover, he successfully founded a development firm, Sirron Development Company, which has built churches, houses, apartments and more, and established the Northwest Georgia Minority Business Association. Likewise, he has dedicated himself to the Students of Excellence Scholarship Foundation and Camp One Sirron. At Camp One, which opens in summer 2021, he will teach students in six key areas, including politics, diplomacy, culture, societal issues, economic matters and intellectualism. He is the founder of the International Students of Excellence Scholarship Foundation that consists of sixteen students staggered by grade levels. His sponsored child is from Ethiopia, which is a part of the scholarship foundation.
An expert in numerous industries, Mr. Allen holds certification in design and electrical wiring from Coosa Valley Vocational Technical College, as well as a certificate in interior decoration and design from Harbin Interior Company. Driven to remain aware of changes in the field, he aligns himself with the National Association for the Advancement of Black People, Hope Ministries and the Southern Leadership Conference. In conjunction with his work, Mr. Allen contributes to his community through the Floyd County Regional Library, the Rome Historical Museum and more.
In light of his professional excellence and expertise, Mr. Allen has earned several recognitions, including a Northwest Georgia Business Association Distinguished Leadership award in 1986. He received a Leadership Award through the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, more than 50 proclamations and certificates from Rome and Floyd County and around the United States in human rights. He also was awarded the Key to the City of Gadsden, Alabama, the city of champions, and the L.M. Mitchell Founder's Award through the Overcoming Church of God, the organization's highest leadership award. He was also named as a Champion of Helping and Honoring Others through the Georgia Association for Black Entrepreneurs. He has received a Congressional Record Proceedings and Debates award from the 112th Congress from Washington, DC January 13, 2012 No. 4 House of Representatives for founding and organizing the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Holiday Celebration in Northwest Georgia in 1986 and the Northwest Georgia Minority Business Association.
He served over fifty years as a marshal of the MLK parade in Atlanta from 1968 to 2018. In February 2021 he was awarded by the Floyd County Commissioners for his social and civil rights work in his community in business at the local and state level. In January 2021 he received a proclamation, presented by the City of Rome Mayor William Collins, for his involvement in bringing parolees back into society. Norris was awarded the Marquis Who's Who Publications Board 2020-2021 award and the Distinguished Humanitarian award 2021. All of his service was done pro bono.
Norris has been called a visionary because he has a strong vision of the future and sees further than ordinary people.
