Having practiced as an attorney since 1973, Mr. Tanick hails from a wealth of experience. After clerking for the presiding judge of the U.S. District Court of Minneapolis, he went on to work for several law firms throughout Minneapolis, beginning with Davis and Lyons as an associate between 1974 and 1976. Mr. Tanick subsequently spent more than a decade as a partner of Tanick and Heins PA, followed by more than 20 years as a partner of Mansfield and Tanick and six years as a partner of Hellmuth and Johnson.
Apart from his time spent in the office and the courtroom, Mr. Tanick has served as a tenured professor of construction, real estate and media law at Hamline University in Saint Paul since 1982 and the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis since 1983. He has also worked as a professor of constitutional law at the William Mitchell College of Law since 1994. Additionally, Mr. Tanick has lent his expertise as a frequent lecturer for continuing legal education programs and has become a prolific author in his area of expertise. He has notably contributed articles to various legal journals and other professional publications and has written and edited for Minnesota Lawyer magazine and Bench and Bar magazine.
To prepare for his career, Mr. Tanick received a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Minnesota in 1969 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence at Stanford University in 1973. He has been admitted to practice law by the California and Minnesota Bar Associations, the Supreme Court of the United States and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third, Seventh and Eighth Circuits. Likewise, Mr. Tanick is a certified senior civil trial specialist through the Minnesota State Bar Association.
Highlighting his career and civic commitments, Mr. Tanick has been bestowed with numerous accolades over the span of his professional journey. To wit, he was named to the Top 100 Attorneys in Minnesota and to Minnesota Super Lawyers and as the Attorney of the Year by the Minnesota Lawyers Magazine. Other recognitions to Mr. Tanick's credit have included a First Amendment Award from the Society of Professional Journalists, an Unsung Hero Award from the Saint Paul Press, an Author's Award from the Minnesota Bar Association and a Citizen of the Year Award from Rotary Club.
