SEATTLE, WA, March 29, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Murray Hackett with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Hackett celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Hackett is a retired biochemist and educator whose expertise includes a wealth of experience in biological mass spectrometry. Employed by the University of Washington for more than two decades, he worked as an assistant professor on campus between 1995 and 2002 and another 15 years as a principal investigator and research scientist until 2018. During the length of his tenure, Dr. Hackett also directed a proteomics laboratory with the support of several departments.
Prior to teaching, Dr. Hackett worked as an environmental and bioanalytical chemist. As he continued to progress in his field, he began gravitating toward infectious disease and microbiology. His most recent work involved measuring global changes in protein and RNA expression in the context of microbe-microbe interactions in model microbial communities, in collaboration with his longtime colleagues in the United States, Japan and Europe. As a result of his years of research, Dr. Hackett has disseminated much of his findings by contributing to approximately 100 peer-reviewed scientific publications to various scholarly journals.
In his free time, Dr. Hackett has been a member of the Wildlife Committee of Washington since 1996. He is notably a former member of the Urasenke Foundation's Seattle Branch. Supporting his professional endeavors, Dr. Hackett has been aligned as a member of the American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the American Chemical Society, the American Society of Mass Spectrometry, the American Society for Microbiology, and the International Association for Dental Research. He is also a member of Phi Lambda Upsilon, which is a chemistry honor society.
Dr. Hackett was born in Phoenix and, as a child, briefly lived in New Zealand with his family. Graduating from Central High School, Phoenix, Arizona, he subsequently attended Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon. After two years of study, he served within the U.S. Coast Guard between 1976 and 1980. Returning to college, Dr. Hackett attended Oregon State University, where he earned both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in 1983 and 1987, respectively. Shortly thereafter, he attained a Doctor of Philosophy in biochemistry at the University of Nevada in 1991, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Virginia in the departments of chemistry and pathology. Over the course of his career, Dr. Hackett has secured a number of research grants from the National Institutes of Health, beginning in 1998.
