For the past five decades, Ms. Pilcz has served her community as a renowned Psychotherapist, Clinical Instructor and Consultant. As an expert in her field, she originally worked in Chicago for the Scholarship and Guidance Association, a premier adolescent treatment agency, from 1969 and 1971, before becoming a Family Therapist and Clinical Instructor from 1972 to 1975 in in-patient Psychiatry at Wesley Pavilion, Northwestern Memorial Hospital. While on staff there, Ms. Pilcz was appointed as a Clinical Instructor in Family Therapy with the Department of Psychiatry at Northwestern University, School of Medicine, from 1973 to 1975. Concurrently, she was appointed as a Field Work Instructor for the University of Chicago, School of Social Service Administration, from 1974 to 1975.
Ms. Pilcz began a Private Practice in Individual, Couple, Family and Group Psychotherapy and Consultation in Chicago in 1974. As part of her diverse and active practice, she was a Consultation Faculty member, from 1978 to 1980, at The Family Institute of Chicago, Center for Family Studies, affiliated with Northwestern University.
In 1980, Ms. Pilcz relocated her Practice to New York City. Once in New York, after completing the Advanced Training Program in Strategic Therapy at the Ackerman Institute for Family Therapy, renowned for its superb Training Programs and Family Therapy services, she was selected as an Associate Staff member at the Institute, where she did clinical work with families and taught a series of Weekend Workshops between 1983 and 1988. Ms. Pilcz also taught an annual Continuing Education part time class, The Therapists' Family System, at Hunter College School of Social Work, Post-Masters Program in Advanced Clinical Social Work, between 1985 and 1988. And, for over a decade, from 1988 until 2004, Ms. Pilcz served as a Clinical Consultant in Family Therapy to the New York City Board of Education.
Throughout her career in New York, in addition to her Clinical Practice, Ms. Pilcz continues to consult to Family Businesses, Small Law Firms and Small Medical Practices.
Utilizing her creative abilities, Ms. Pilcz contributed a chapter, 'Understanding the Survivor Family,' which expounds upon the legacy of strengths and resilience in Holocaust Survivor Families, in "Living After the Holocaust", 2nd ed. In 1979, she was the Thematic Consultant for the documentary film, "The Legacy", which notably won the 1980 CINE Golden Eagle and Red Ribbon American Film Festival Award. Additionally, Ms. Pilcz was the featured Therapist in a Family Law Class training film at New York University Law School.
Throughout her career, Ms. Pilcz presented papers on a variety of topics at national and international conferences in the United States and Canada, including The American Orthopsychiatric Association, The Association of Marital Therapists, The International Psychiatric Society, and The Society for Traumatic Stress Studies.
An early fore-telling of what was to come, as a youngster in grammar school. Ms. Pilcz won a New York City Mayoral Medal for a Fire Prevention essay that she wrote. Years later, Ms. Pilcz did her undergraduate work at Brooklyn College where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 1967. Having served as President of several student organizations and for her active participation and contribution the College student activities programs, she was given the All-College Gold Key Award. There-after, in 1969 she obtained a Master of Arts in Social Work at the University of Chicago.
Ms. Pilcz is a Board Certified Diplomate, conferred by the American Board of Examiners in Clinical Social Work, and is a New York State Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She is currently a member of the National Association of Social Workers, the American Board of Clinical Social Work, and the Academy of Certified Social Workers. Ms. Pilcz is also a member of the Events Planning Committee of the New York City Alumni Association of the University of Chicago.
