An accomplished listee, Mr. Luchtel celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Now retired, Mr. Luchtel distinguished himself as an attorney with the law firm of Nyemaster Goode in Des Moines, Iowa, for nearly four decades. Hired as an associate in 1973 shortly after graduating from law school, he later served as a shareholder for the firm between 1976 and his retirement on December 31, 2012.

Nyemaster Goode provides legal services through six primary practice areas: Business, Finance and Real Estate; Government Affairs; Intellectual Property; Labor and Employment; Litigation; and Tax, Estate Planning and Employee Benefits. The firm has additional offices in Ames and Cedar Rapid, Iowa. Mr. Luchtel provided services in the litigation and government affairs areas. He represented local, state, and national business and professional organizations. He also served the City of Clive, Iowa, as City Attorney from 1978 to 1986.

He was a leader in the legislative effort required to obtain state participation in funding and development of the Wells Fargo Arena and Convention Center in Des Moines. He was also involved in locating and funding the headquarters for the World Food Prize in Des Moines.

Soon after he retired, Mr. Luchtel was appointed the first Executive Director of the Iowa Public Information Board. He served in that capacity from 2013 until 2015. The Board was a newly created independent agency charged with enforcement of Iowa's open meetings and open records statutes. It is controlled by a nine-member board appointed by the Governor of Iowa and subject to Iowa Senate confirmation. In 2016 he was appointed to the Board. Mr. Luchtel's other civic engagements have included serving on Boards of the Iowa Gold Star Military Museum in Johnston, Iowa, and the local Chapter of the Air Force Association.

Mr. Luchtel wrote "The Milford Male: The Autobiography of a Small Town Iowan" published in 2019 through Happy Jack Publishing LLC and sold by Amazon. The memoir describes his life beginning with his family in Iowa, followed by his experiences at the U.S. Air Force Academy. It goes into detail about Mr. Luchtel's experiences as a military officer, combat pilot and special operator, as well as his civilian life as an attorney, lobbyist, regulator, and political consultant. The book relates his realization of the impact World War II had on his family as he was growing up and the impact Vietnam and special operations experiences had on him and his wife and children.

Mr. Luchtel received a Bachelor of Science, with honors, at the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1964. He next completed jet pilot training in 1965. While serving in the Air Force, he advanced to the rank of a captain in 1968 before resigning in 1970. For Mr. Luchtel's combat service in the Air Force, he was decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross and 17 Air Medals.

He was awarded a Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree at Drake University Law School in 1973 and was named to the Order of the Coif, an honorary scholastic Society recognizing law students who attain a high grade of scholarship. Mr. Luchtel was admitted to practice law upon examination by the Iowa Supreme Court and by application by the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Northern Districts of Iowa. He remains a member of the Iowa State Bar Association and the Polk County Bar Association although no longer a practicing attorney. He is also a member of the Forward Air Controllers Association, the United States Air Force Academy Association of Graduates, the Air Force Association, and the American Legion.
