Ms. Bryant celebrates more than four decades of success in computer programming and software engineering. A gifted mathematics student, she enrolled at the Harrisburg Area Community College in 1970, transferring to Temple University the following year, to major in math. She quickly realized that she preferred logic to abstract mathematics, and quickly became passionate for the programming classes she decided to take. Ms. Bryant graduated in 1974 from Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and computer science, magna cum laude.
After completing her undergraduate education, Ms. Bryant became an associate software engineer of Raytheon Corporation, rising to become a senior software engineer in 1983. Later that year, she became a senior software engineer for Sequoia Systems while continuing graduate-level study at Boston University, completing a Master of Science in computer science in 1986. Ms. Bryant remained with Sequoia Systems' Marlborough, Massachusetts, office until 1989, departing to establish a private practice in contract programming. She returned to Sequoia Systems between 1993 and 1997, whereupon she began a career-defining stint at EMC Corporation, formally Data General.
Ms. Bryant was a senior software engineer at EMC Corporation until 2002, when she was named as a principal software engineer. She continued her work with the company until her retirement in 2016, while being granted three software patents (one for "Handling Managed Object Data" and two for "Updating System Status") that she considers to be the highlight of her career. She was also the recipient of a Group Achievement Award from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration during an early stage of her career. Ms. Bryant considers her parents, George A. and Ethel J. Smith, key to her early career development, and she is grateful to her spouse, Gregory, her children, and her three grandchildren for their support.
