Establishing his business out of necessity during a downturn in the economy, Mr. Nelson has not only expanded the scope of his company, but also developed a significant reputation as a trusted expert in his field.
Mr. Nelson formerly worked for Engineering Tectonics PA in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, as its chief hydrologist, chairperson of the board and chief engineering geologist between 1985 and 1991 and 1995 and 2009. Among other prominent positions, he worked for Bain, Palmer and Associates in Greensboro, North Carolina, as the vice president and principal hydrologist from 1991 to 1995. Apart from his full time responsibilities, Mr. Nelson spent nearly a decade as a hydrologist for the Guilford County Board on Environmental Quality in Greensboro from 1991 to 1999.
Born and raised in High Point, Mr. Nelson has often seized the opportunity to contribute to his community at large. He is a former assistant scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America, a former member of the watershed protection committee of High Point Directions and a past board director of the Piedmont Land Conservancy, Guilford County Partners in Public Health. Mr. Nelson continues to remain active as the founder of the Olde Oaken Paddle Society in High Point.
Studying at North Carolina State University, Mr. Nelson earned a Bachelor of Science in geology in 1978. He later completed postgraduate coursework in environmental science at Duke University from 1992 until 1994. Mr. Nelson is a licensed professional geologist in the state of North Carolina, a certified professional geologist in the state of Virginia and a registered professional geologist in the state of South Carolina.
To remain aware of developments in the field, Mr. Nelson has maintained his affiliation with a number of professional associations. Among them, he is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Geological Society of America, the Association of Engineering Geologists, the Association of Groundwater Scientists and Engineers and the American Institute of Professional Geologists. A celebrated Marquis listee, Mr. Nelson has been cited in the 55th edition of Who's Who in America, the 28th edition of Who's Who in Finance and Industry, the fifth through ninth editions of Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and the 20th and 24th editions of Who's Who in the World.
