CHICAGO, IL, April 06, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Valeria Stokes has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Born into a healthcare-oriented family, Dr. Stokes decided at a young age that she was going to pursue a career in service to others. With a focus on strategic human resource work and driving organizational performance through people, she initially served as a program manager for The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations during the early 1990s. During this time, Dr. Stokes designed the curriculum for the annual National Forum on Health Care Quality and was active as an internal consultant to member organizations on accreditation standards.
Dr. Stokes subsequently gained valuable expertise in human resources through roles of increasing responsibility with such organizations as Sears, K-Mart, Acco World Corporation, with which she controlled a global training budget of more than $1.5 million, and Cingular, through which she managed a corporate learning budget in excess of $10 million. She further flourished with the Stokes Consulting Group. More recently, she found success as a senior human resources director at Howard University. Between 2010 and 2012, Dr. Stokes helped Howard University establish the framework for diversity and inclusion that resulted in the expansion of the Office of Employee Relations to the Office of Employee Relations and Diversity.
Drawing upon years of experience in diversity, human capital planning, mergers and acquisitions and change management, Dr. Stokes currently excels as the vice president of human resources for Erie Family Health Centers, which provides a high level of care to more than 80,000 patients. In addition to creating an internal clinical staffing agency and establishing a diversity and inclusion strategy for recruitment and talent management, she orchestrated the human resources strategy addressing workforce accommodations necessary for response to COVID-19 and instituted technology evaluation and best practices initiatives for HRIS and credentialing. Due to her vast breadth of knowledge, Dr. Stokes has also contributed to a plethora of publications, including "Freirian Analysis of Health Education for African Americans," "Attracting and Retaining Talent" and "Human Capital Management and Planning."
Initially earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Creighton University, Dr. Stokes later obtained a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Nebraska Medical Center and a Doctor of Education in adult continuing education, human resources and organizational development from Northern Illinois University. In order to remain aware of changes in the field, she has been affiliated with several organizations over the years, including the Society for Human Resource Management and Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. In conjunction with her work, she supports those less fortunate through domestic violence and homeless organizations in her area. In light of her professional excellence, she was recognized in Who's Who of Young Americans during the early 1990s and accepted the Trailblazer Award for Advancing Supplier Diversity from the Chicago Minority Supplier Development Council in 2016. In the coming years, Dr. Stokes intends to continue helping others reach their greatest potential.
