RICHMOND, TX, April 07, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Ismay V. Wilson has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Drawing inspiration from her father, Ovid Angold Wilson, a high school principal and father of nine, Dr. Wilson pursued higher education and international travel. After earning her nursing diploma and a diploma in Midwifery in London she migrated to the United States and began working as a nurse on an orthopedic floor in 1974. Following this accomplishment, Dr. Wilson earned a Bachelor of Science in Anesthesia from George Washington University in 1978 and a Master's degree in Health services Management from South East University in 1981.
Throughout the course of her career, Dr. Wilson gained valuable expertise in the field through numerous institutions, including Pinnacle Health Systems, where she served as the manager or anesthesia between 2001 and 2003 upon completion of her Doctorate in Education with a concentration in educational administration from University of Houston in 2000.
In the context or her role, she expanded cross-functional organizational capacity by collaborating across departments, established and administered the annual budget, directed a staff of 30 personnel and managed a budget totaling $5 million annually. Moreover, Dr. Wilson raised performance in sales, management and operations by identifying and targeting areas in need of improvement. Dr Wilson worked tirelessly with the nursing anesthetists to improve various areas of the department that were lacking such as more staffing and making the nurse anesthetist more visible to the entire institution. She recruited nurses to enter Anesthesia programs and they were offered stipends thus upon graduation they would have a job at the institution Dr. Wilson was affiliated with.
Prior to her retirement in 2020, Dr. Wilson distinguished herself as a staff certified registered nurse anesthetist. Among her responsibilities, she administered anesthesia and this included pre-anesthetic screenings, monitoring patients during anesthesia and delivering targeted pharmacological assistance, mechanical ventilation support and various other interventions during routine and complex surgeries.
Driven to remain aware of changes in the field. Dr. Wilson has retained her professional alignment with the Texas and American Associations of Nurses Anesthetists, the Guyanese Association of Greater Houston, the Jamaican Foundation of Houston and the Economic Assistance Resources for the Needy. In conjunction with her work in the field, she also contributed to those less fortunate through her church, the Salvation Army and Goodwill.
In recognition of her professional achievements. Dr. Wilson was recognized on several occasions. However, she is most proud to have treated patients she anesthetized as though they were a member of her own family. Looking toward the future, Dr. Wilson intends to enjoy her well-deserved retirement and reap the fruits of her success.
