MONTEREY, CA, April 08, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Peter Gerbino has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Driven to pursue a career in service to others, Dr. Gerbino became a physician. After earning a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Science from Stanford University in 1977 and 1980 respectively, he obtained a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh's School of Medicine in 1986. Upon graduating from medical school, Dr. Gerbino completed an internship at Oakland Naval Hospital, residency at Portsmouth Naval Medical Center, a sports medicine fellowship at Boston Children's Hospital, a traveling fellowship through the Boston-Stockholm Sports Medicine Exchange and a traveling fellowship through the Clinical Orthopedic Society.
Over the years, Dr. Gerbino honed his expertise in clinical, editorial and academic positions with such institutions as Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, the Performing Artists' Medicine Network, Beth-Israel Deaconess Hospital and Harvard Medical School, for which he worked as an orthopedic surgery instructor from 1997 to 2005. Backed by his extensive professional and academic resumes, he currently is in a plethora of roles, including as a staff orthopedic surgeon with Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, Hazel-Hawkins Hospital and the Monterey Peninsula Surgery Center. Dr. Gerbino has been additionally active as an associate editor of the Journal of Dance Medicine and Science and a team physician for Seaside High School, Monterey Bay Derby Dames and the United States Figure Skating Team.
Between 1982 and 2014, Dr. Gerbino served to the rank of captain in the U.S. Navy. He further flourished as a member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary since 2019. In light of his vast breadth of knowledge, he has taught residents and fellows and been invited to speak at local, national and international conferences. Along with other scholars in the field, Dr. Gerbino has also authored such publications as "Neurovascular complications resulting from corticosteroid injections," "Tibial eminence fractures in children: Prevalence of meniscal entrapment" and "Idiopathic scoliosis and spondylolysis in the female athlete: Tips for treatment."
Additionally certified in orthopedic surgery and orthopedic sports medicine, Dr. Gerbino has been affiliated with the Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Medical Association, the American College of Sports Medicine, the International Association for Dance Medicine and Science, the Academy of Medicine of Cincinnati, the Ohio State Medical Association and the Massachusetts Medical Society in order to remain aware of changes in the field. In recognition of his military excellence, he has been honored with the Navy Unit Commendation Medal, a National Defense Medal for his service during the Gulf and Iraq Wars, a Global War of Terrorism Medal and a Sea Service Ribbon. Professionally, he was presented with a Case of the Week Award from the Naval Hospital in Portsmouth Virginia in 1992 and was selected as the US Figure Skating team physician for the 2018 Winter Olympics. Within the coming years, Dr. Gerbino intends to pursue breakthrough research in his areas of expertise.
