After graduating from Eastern Illinois University, Ms. Darby-Ritz began working as a teacher. She received a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University to enhance her career. Having worked in special education for three decades before retiring in 2012, she went on to work full-time at her family's funeral home, where she had been working intermittently since her youth. As part of the third generation of family to manage the business, Ms. Darby-Ritz is proud to have helped build a foundation upon which her children can stand.
In her role as a general manager, Ms. Darby-Ritz has leveraged the skills she learned as a teacher to help support grieving families. In a career suffused with highlights, she is most proud to have earned recognition as a Peoria Unified School District's Pride of Peoria Moreover, Ms. Darby-Ritz received the Kellis Award for Excellence in Education. The Kellis Award is given to Peoria Unified's Teacher of the Year.
Throughout the course of her journey, Ms. Darby-Ritz has enjoyed working with children with disabilities. Civically, she serves as the president of the Arizona Funeral Director Cemetery and Cremation Association (AFCCA) Children's Charity, as well as the Sun City West Alliance of Business and Community. She also volunteers at Eve's Place, a domestic abuse treatment center. Professionally, she has maintained her affiliation with the National Funeral Directors Association and the Cremation National Association. In the coming years, Ms. Darby-Ritz plans to help more people take advantage of pre-planned funerals in order to help services run more efficiently.
