Ms. Liberace is a professor emeritus at SUNY and SUNY Rockland Community College and was professor of biomedical ethics at SUNY New Paltz. She has taught since 1994. Born in Ireland, she studied acting before following several of her friends into the field of nursing, and worked as a teacher, nurse and administrator at St. Vincent's Hospital and the National Maternity Hospital in Dublin before immigrating to the United States in 1961. She continued to work in healthcare as an operating room supervisor at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore before becoming a principal for Systems Transition Associates and Barucco Associates in New York City, where she would spend the next several years. Ms. Liberace was bestowed with a Bachelor of Science in health sciences and communication from Empire State College in 1979 and a Master of Philosophy from Manhattanville College in 1982, with additional postgraduate certification in biomedical ethics.
In 1982, Ms. Liberace transitioned into teaching as a professor of speech, philosophy and religious studies at Rockland Community College, where she served as the coordinator of the school's life skills program from 1987 until 1991. She was named as the assistant dean in 1991. In 1994 she became the chairperson of health sciences and began teaching biomedical ethics at SUNY New Paltz. Rockland Community College named Ms. Liberace as a professor of speech and philosophy in 2000 and The State University of New York recognized her as a distinguished service professor in 2015, a title she held until she was granted emeritus status in 2019.
A lifelong advocate on behalf of her community, she has served on the boards of directors of the Good Samaritan Hospital and Bon Secours Healthcare Systems, as well as on the board of directors for such cultural organizations as the Rockland Opera, the Irish Library, and the Irish Arts Forum. A lifelong Catholic, Ms. Liberace has served as a lector and volunteer for various church ministries, sings in her church choir, and is a former member of the New York Archdiocese Chorale, with whom she was invited to perform at St. Peter's Cathedral and for Popes John Paul II, Benedict and Francis. Likewise, she is the author of "Walking on Water" and "Lament in a Minor Key," which was named as the 2018 Book of the Year by the Rockland County Library Association, and is currently working on finishing another.
