ALBUQUERQUE, NM, April 22, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dan Whisler has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Whisler was greatly influenced by his teachers in his youth, specifically his undergraduate conductor and mentor, Mark Laycock, who guided him through the beginning of his career in a very welcoming way. He subsequently earned a Bachelor of Music Education from Wichita State University and a Master of Music from the University of Northern Colorado. Initially working as a bell choir director at First Congregational Church in Greeley, Colorado, Mr. Whisler was also active as a graduate assistant orchestra conductor at UNC and a reserve conductor of the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra.
Over the years, Mr. Whisler has accepted director and conductor positions with Center Grove Community School Corp, the Youth Performing Arts School in Louisville, KY, the Intimate Opera of Indianapolis and the Indianapolis Youth Orchestra. He currently excels as the music director and youth symphony conductor of the Albuquerque Youth Symphony Program, a program which serves more than 500 musicians in ensembles from grades three through twelve and that has been growing musicians since 1955.
In his career, Mr. Whisler has conducted professional orchestras in the United States, England, Spain, Lithuania, Hungary and Romania. As a respected voice in his field, he previously authored "Traveling with your Orchestra: Three Benefits of a Performance Tour" for Music for All Orchestra News. He has been additionally affiliated with the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, National Association for Music Education, the American String Teachers Association and the Collegiate Music Educators National Conference. Mr. Whisler has further flourished with the Satanta Arts Council and Satanta United Methodist Church in Kansas, Risen Lord Lutheran Church in Indiana, University United Methodist Church in Kansas and First Congregational Church in Colorado.
For his exceptional efforts in his career, Mr. Whisler received the Downbeat Award for Best U.S. College Classical Ensemble, the Bel Canto Award for Excellence in Conducting and the 2015 American Prize in Conducting. Most recently, the Governor of Kentucky, Andy Beshear, presented him with the Commission of Kentucky Colonel. Looking toward the future, Mr. Whisler plans to continue to inspire students along his current path of success.
