After a number of years with Debevoise and Plimpton LLP in New York City, Mr. Hogan joined the firm of Gibson, Dunn and Crutcher LLP in Washington, D.C. as an associate attorney in 2004. Advancing to the post of partner in 2011, he also serves as the chairman of the fashion, retail, and consumer products practice group. Focusing his practice on such matters as intellectual property litigation and counseling, he has appeared before federal and state courts representing individuals and corporations in a multitude of industries. Mr. Hogan also boasts extensive expertise in matters of media and internet, privacy law, trade secrets, and information security.
Recently, Mr. Hogan had the opportunity to participate in a pro bono case in 2020 involving a 13-year-old immigrant girl who was being held in a Virginia facility during the COVID-19 pandemic. Filing a Habeas Corpus petition and motion, his efforts led to the government releasing her back into the custody of her family in the U.S. In addition to his primary professional commitments, Mr. Hogan works on the board of directors for the National Foundation to End Senior Hunger and the Washington Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs as well as the Washington, D.C. board of directors for the Jewish National Fund.
Mr. Hogan also lectures frequently on issues pertaining to intellectual property and technology, having been renowned for speaking at various legal association meetings. Moreover, he has become a published author, recently releasing the updated version of "Fashion Law and Business: Brands and Retailers" with Jennifer Bellah Maguire through the Practising Law Institute. A fellow of the American Bar Foundation since 2021, Mr. Hogan additionally maintains his affiliation with the New York State Bar Association, the Connecticut Bar Association and the District of Columbia Bar.
Early in his career, Mr. Hogan assisted with the establishment of the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps as a team leader between 1994 and 1996. Mr. Hogan was honored for his exceptional efforts with AmeriCorps with an Outstanding Leadership Award.
Mr. Hogan prepared for his illustrious legal career by earning a Bachelor of Science in international relations, law and organization, magna cum laude, at Georgetown University in 1994, followed by a law degree, cum laude, at New York University in 1999. During his studies at the latter university, he was notably appointed as editor-in-chief of The Commentator as well as research and writing editor of the Moot Court Board. Mr. Hogan has been admitted to practice before the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Ninth, D.C., and Federal Circuits, the U.S. District Courts for the Southern, Eastern, and Northern Districts of New York, and the U.S. District Courts for the District of Columbia, the Eastern District of Texas, and the District of Maryland.
Regarding his area of expertise, Mr. Hogan has been quoted by such prominent publications as The Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post and USA Today. He has also provided commentary on television and radio programs. In recognition of his civic commitments, he was honored with a Friend of the Year Award from the Meals on Wheels Association of America in 2008 and the inaugural President's Award from the Jewish National Fund in 2019.
