LAKELAND, FL, April 23, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Felipe I. Tolentino with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Tolentino celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Tolentino is a retina specialist and associate surgeon who practiced at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston from 1983 to 2003, whereupon he officially retired. Renowned for his expertise in the field, he was affiliated with several hospitals in the area, including the Hahnemann Hospital and Warren Memorial Hospital, and maintained a faculty appointment at the Harvard Medical School as an associate clinical professor between 1976 and 2010. Additionally, Dr. Tolentino served as an associate scientist at the Eye Research Institute of the Retina Foundation in Boston for many years, where he had previously completed a clinical fellowship in retina and vitreous and a senior research fellowship. Besides his full-time commitments, he spent many years as a retina specialist consultant at Tufts Medical Center through the American Society of Retina Specialists.
A native of the Philippines, Dr. Tolentino's earlier years in medicine included teaching appointments and medical practice at the Manila Medical Center and at his alma mater, the University of the Philippines. Over the years, he has contributed three medical books to his field, authored a plethora of scholarly journal articles and served as an editorial board member for the prestigious Journal of Retina and Vitreous and for Archives of Ophthalmology. Additionally, Dr. Tolentino became a frequent speaker, lecturing before various professional conferences.
Since retiring from practice, Dr. Tolentino began focusing more of his time and resources on his continuous charity work. Serving the underserved through two nonprofit organizations, Restoring Sight International and the Ophthalmological Foundation of the Philippines, he provides free eye services in the poorest of communities. Professionally, Dr. Tolentino is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is also a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Vitreous Society and the Retina Society, and is a past president and former governor of the Association of Philippine Ophthalmologists of America, as well as a longtime secretary of the Ophthalmologic Society of the Philippines.
Drawing extensively from the influence of his uncle, who was a prominent doctor in the Philippines, Dr. Tolentino studied hard to attend medical school and became successful. He notably earned an Associate of Arts from the University of the Philippines in 1952 before ultimately receiving a Doctor of Medicine on campus in 1957. Additional educational pursuits to his credit include an internship and residency in ophthalmology at the Philippine General Hospital, with additional residencies completed at Saint Mary's Hospital in Rochester, New York, and Home G. Phillips Hospital in Saint Louis. Eminently qualified in his field, Dr. Tolentino is board certified in ophthalmology and is licensed to practice medicine in the Philippines, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania.
For his incredible work in charitable pursuits, Dr. Tolentino was honored to receive a Gusi Peace Prize from the Gusi Peace Prize Foundation. Based in Manila, the organization recognized individuals and organizations for their outstanding global peace and progress in a variety of fields. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Tolentino has also been cited in the 21st and 22nd editions of Who's Who in the East.
