DALLAS, TX, April 23, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Alan Menter, MD, has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Dr. Menter is a dermatologist and the chairperson of the division of dermatology at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. A part of Baylor, Scott & White Health, it is the largest nonprofit health care system in Texas. Dr. Menter is also a tenured research center and program director at Baylor Texas for the dermatology residency program and a practicing dermatologist at Texas Dermatology Associates PA, where he specializes in systemic and biologic therapy, phototherapy and, more recently, atopic eczema.
In addition to his medical work, Dr. Menter is a clinical professor of dermatology at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas and a frequent speaker in his field. He notably spent six years as a clinical director of the National Psoriasis Foundation Gene Bank between 1996 and 2002. As a respected figure in his area of expertise, Dr. Menter also established and is a past president of the International Psoriasis Council, an organization devoted to raising awareness in regards to psoriasis. Among other industry-related initiatives, he is presently a program coordinator of dermatology, rheumatology, psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis on behalf of various international dermatology organizations throughout Switzerland.
Maintaining a strong interest in the study of psoriasis and psoriatic disease, Dr. Menter has conducted extensive study in such areas as ultraviolet phototherapy and biologic therapy. His years of research have been documented in scholarly journals through approximately 300 articles. He also published four books, as well as 19 book chapters and numerous reviews for such medical journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine and Lancet. Furthermore, Dr. Menter has been active in various editorial roles for several professional publications, including the Journal of Clinical Dermatology.
Dr. Menter completed his schooling at the Medical School of the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. He subsequently completed an internship in internal medicine and surgery at Johannesburg General Hospital in 1968 and a residency in dermatology at the University of Pretoria. Additional educational pursuits to his credit have included a fellowship in skin disease at Guys Hospital Medical School at London and a second fellowship in dermatology at the University of Texas. Furthermore, Dr. Menter received a medical degree at Baylor University in Dallas in 2021 and is board certified in dermatology through the American Board of Dermatology.
To better support his career, Dr. Menter is a past president of the Texas Dermatology Society and a former board member of the American Academy of Dermatology. Likewise, he is a member of the American Dermatological Association, the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, the British Association of Dermatologists and the Society for Investigative Dermatology. Dr. Menter is also an honorary member of the Latin American Society for Psoriasis.
Dr. Menter received the Giants of Dermatology Award from Dermatology Times in 2020. He was previously acknowledged by the American Academy of Dermatology with the Clark W. Finnerud Award in 2015 and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Psoriasis Foundation in 2013. Dr. Menter has consistently been highlighted in Best Doctors in America since 1994.
