BOULDER, CO, April 26, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Carol Porter Grossman with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Grossman celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
After spending nearly 25 years in engineering for IBM, Ms. Grossman left IBM to follow her passion as an independent scholar and writer. What began as a hobby of book collecting has since evolved into operating Four Rivers Books LLC in Boulder, Colorado. Established in 1996, she has continually grown her inventory of fine press books and has extensively expanded her knowledge in the field. Most of her books have been produced by small presses in the U.S and in Europe. Originally collaborating with Bob Fleck, of Oak Knoll Books, to learn the many intricacies of the business, Ms. Grossman flourished on her own. In 2017, she authored her own book, titled "The History of the Limited Editions Club," which received high acclaim from the Times Literary Supplement of London, the Bibliographical Society of America, and The Library, published by the British Bibliographical Society.
Apart from her full-time commitments in publishing, she has, for the past two decades, contributed numerous articles to a variety of professional journals and has served as an editor-at-large, treasurer and secretary on behalf of the Fine Press Book Association between 1996 and 2001. In her free time, Ms. Grossman has enjoyed the arts as a board director of the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra. She also was the former president of the University of Colorado at Boulder Friends of the Libraries.
Ms. Grossman's work ethic has derived from her tenure in engineering. From 1974 to 1998, she was a Systems Engineer, Senior Planner of the Storage Systems Division and Senior Engineering Manager for the Printing Systems Division at IBM. Her career with the organization included work performed in Illinois, Arizona and Colorado. Ms. Grossman enjoyed many career highlights, from garnering a reputation in product development to serving as a liaison for customer projects.
In 1996, Ms. Grossman co-founded the Fine Press Book Association in Delaware. She is also a member and a former governor of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America, a member of the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers, the Rocky Mountain Antiquarian Booksellers Association, and the American Printing History Association. Additionally, Ms. Grossman is a member of the Grolier Club, the Caxton Club, and the Book Club of California.
Ms. Grossman earned both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science at Northwestern University in 1967 and 1968, respectively. She graduated with highest distinction, departmental honors in Mathematics, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Pi Mu Epsilon. Well regarded for her subsequent efforts, Ms. Grossman received a fellowship from the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center at the University of Texas in Austin in 2000. A celebrated Marquis listee, she has been cited in the 57th edition of Who's Who in America and the 25th edition of Who's Who of American Women.
