Coming of age as the fifth of seven children, Ms. Smith was raised to live up to her potential. After graduating from high school, she obtained a position with Prudential Life Insurance Company, where she worked for the following four and half years. Following this period, she joined Ortho Diagnostics, a Johnson and Johnson company, in the administrative field. Based on her expertise and experience she advanced with the family of companies in the administrative field for the next six years. Driven to improve her prospects she transitioned from an administrative role to a computer programmer from 1985-1996. In 1996 she transitioned from Information Technology organization to the Quality Assurance organization as a quality specialist and continued to advance in the organization.
Throughout the course of her career, Ms. Smith gained valuable expertise with Johnson & Johnson as a Document Manager, Associate Manager, and Staff Quality Engineer before retiring after 31 years of service in February, 2017.
In 2016, she was diagnosed with an aggressive variant of breast cancer, which she was able to defeat with prayers, chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. This was her second journey with breast cancer. Her first journey was eleven years prior and was a totally different variant than the second diagnosis. Following this happy turn of events, she partnered with the Breast Cancer Resource Center at the YWCA in Princeton, New Jersey, where she was asked to serve as a speaker at one of their annual events. After which other organization and companies sought after her to speak at their events particularly during October, breast cancer awareness month.
Drawing on her considerable expertise, she excels today as the managing director, owner and founder of Lord & Smith, and as the owner of HITS – Hattie's Inspirational T-Shirts – through which she provides shirts for men and women with designs advocating breast cancer awareness inspired by her Christian faith.
A seasoned breast cancer advocate leader with a proven record of accomplishments in project management, decision making, technology and more, Ms. Smith earned a Bachelor of Arts from Thomas Edison State University in 2012. Outside of her work, she has contributed to her community as a breast cancer advocate volunteer and a Corporate Fundraising Director for a non-profit organization that serviced underserved and underprivileged African American women and men where she served between 2000 and 2011.
Ms. Smith is the mother of three beautiful adult women, Tanesia, Jasmin, and Camille, and married to her husband, Gary, which she says is her rock and has been by her side and an inspiration through it all.
