SOUTH BEND, IN, April 28, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Margo DeMont, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. DeMont celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. DeMont is a licensed clinical social worker and the former executive director of community health and senior services at the Memorial Hospital of South Bend, where she spent nearly two decades years serving seniors, children and families. Her journey toward community health began during her early adolescence, during which time she drew greatly from the inspiration of her teachers. Dr. DeMont earned both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in education at Indiana University, and taught at the elementary level for Argos School Corporation from 1973 until 1975 before moving into higher education as the director of admissions and financial aid at Ancilla College in 1979.
Dr. DeMont would remain with Ancilla College as the director of student services while continuing her education, earning a second Master of Science in counseling at Indiana University in 1980, and beginning doctoral coursework in counseling therapy and human services, life-time developmental psychology, and Higher Education Administration at Purdue University. She was bestowed with a Doctor of Philosophy from Purdue in 1986, and was honored to receive a National Institutes of Health sponsored Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Notre Dame while working as the Director for an emotional health unit supported by Greenleaf Health Systems at St. Joseph Medical Center in Mishawaka, Indiana.
After completing the HHS Postdoctoral Fellowship in Geropsychology, Dr. DeMont re-entered healthcare in 1988 and was named as the director of senior services for Memorial Hospital of South Bend, Indiana, where she provided and coordinated therapy, counseling and social services for elderly patients, including raising funds for and opening a $1.5 million senior center including a state-of-the-art computing education center.
During her tenure as the director of senior services, Dr. DeMont served on the board of directors of the Indiana Association of Adult Development and Aging and various committees of the American Society on Aging and the Indiana Counseling Association. Likewise, she shared her expertise as both an expert witness in Indiana Superior Court and a reviewer for the Gerontology and Geriatrics Education Journal.
In the late 1990s, Dr. DeMont felt compelled by her Christian faith to work with children and families and, in 1999, was named as the executive director of community health at the Memorial Hospital of South Bend, a role she held until her retirement in 2017. Long dedicated to education and community health, she has remained committed to using her skills and education to promote unity and social justice throughout her career. Dr. DeMont is the recipient of numerous grants, awards and accolades, including the Martin Luther King Justice Award for services to the community. Moreover, she was a board director of the Northern Indiana Arthritis Foundation and the Northern Indiana Alzheimer's Association.
