ALEXANDRIA, LA, April 28, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Charles Smith Jr. has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. During his formative years, Mr. Smith was inspired by his own high school coaches and teachers. While his basketball coach encouraged him to remain in athletics, his various teachers advised him to pursue further education. Mr. Smith subsequently became the first person in his family to receive a college degree, earning a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Paul Quinn College and a master's degree in education from Northwestern State University.
For 50 years, Mr. Smith has excelled as a teacher, focusing on advanced math and trigonometry at Peabody Magnet High School. He also works as the head boys' basketball coach at the aforementioned high school. In his career, he notably obtained the most game wins in the state of Louisiana with a total of 1,087 wins. Mr. Smith's exemplary achievements inspired the 2017 documentary, "Chasing 1,000 Wins," for which he served as the co-writer and producer.
For his exceptional efforts over the years, Mr. Smith was inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame, the Louisiana Coaches Hall of Fame and the National High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Throughout his career, he has attributed his professional success to the support that he received from his parents. He is incredibly proud to have inspired his children to garner their own professional accomplishments, as his daughter received a doctorate degree in education and works at Southern University while his son is active as an assistant coach with a master's degree. In the coming years, Mr. Smith would like to continue making a difference in the lives of young people.
