OXFORD, MS, May 03, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Mary Kay Stiles McDowell with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. McDowell celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Now retired after a career of teaching piano for more than 40 years, Ms. McDowell is enjoying her free time playing for the residents of her assisted living facility. Performing solo every six weeks, she also actively engages her audience through sing-a-longs with residents. As a piano teacher and the former owner of McDowell Studio between 1960 and 2006, Ms. McDowell had the pleasure to work with over 300 students, comprising roughly 40 students each week. Some of her students graced her presence for just one year, while others remained a constant for over a decade.
As an active contributor to her local community, Ms. McDowell was honored with an honorary life woman's membership at First Presbyterian Church of Oxford, where she is a current parishioner. She was formerly aligned with the local Incorporated Piano Fund of Lafayette County and Daughters of the American Revolution for many years. While teaching, Ms. McDowell was notably engaged as a member of the Music Teachers Music Association and several other professional organizations. Presently, she remains active as a member of the National Federation of Music Clubs and the Mississippi Federation of Music Clubs.
Born in Sycamore, Illinois, Ms. McDowell began playing piano professionally as a duo with fellow musician Percy Grainger in 1953 at the age of 17. After graduating from high school, she earned an associate's degree in commerce at Christian College in Columbia, Missouri, in 1956, followed by a Bachelor of Science in education at the University of Missouri in 1959. While pursuing her bachelor's degree, she continued to take music lessons. Ms. McDowell received a life teaching certificate from the State of Missouri in 1959, the same year she earned her second degree. In 1994, Ms. McDowell's musical composition was recognized with a First Place Award in the Mississippi State Composer's Contest.
