Marquis Who's Who Honors David Arthur Lienhart with Inclusion in Who's Who in the World

Mr. Lienhart celebrates nearly 60 years in geology and petrology.

CINCINNATI, OH, May 04, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to honor David Arthur Lienhart with inclusion in Who's Who in the World. An accomplished listee, David Arthur Lienhart celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Since coming of age, Mr. Lienhart has long been fascinated by rocks, fossils and minerals. While growing up, he often found himself exploring the nearby creek for deposits and delighting in what he found there. After embarking upon his academic journey, Mr. Lienhart received a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts from the University of Cincinnati. He also studied nuclear radiology at the U.S. Army Chemical School and advanced rock mechanics engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Mr. Lienhart began his career as a petrographer and geologist for the Ohio River Division Laboratory performing special studies on lunar soil simulants for NASA and examining the effect of ultra-high vacuum on properties of rock. At the request of Dr. Shaler Philbrick, Mr. Lienhart took on the study of the effects of time and climate on the durability and deterioration of various types of rock. This information developed into a guide for predicting the service life of rock used in coastal protection products, in turn bringing Mr. Lienhart to the attention of the world's experts in Shoreline and Coastal Protection. In 1976 he was appointed Director of the laboratory and continued his studies through a Fellowship awarded by the Department of the Army for a period of one year at the University of his choice. In 1990 he subsequently accepted a position as hydrologist in the Geotechnology HTRW Division of the U.S. Army Corps Engineers. Presently, Mr. Lienhart excels as a consultant for DAL Engineering Geologic & Petrographic Services and Construction Rock Properties and Evaluation of Rock for Erosion Control.

While studying in school, Mr. Lienhart developed a new method for the determination of optical properties of non-opaque, uniaxial minerals, and wrote his thesis on this subject. Following this discovery, Mr. Lienhart embarked on new research in the field of rock weathering, important to the economics of the construction of shoreline and coastal protection throughout the world and, over the years, received guidance and verification of his work from various colleagues throughout the world, which kept him on a successful path. In addition to his presentation at a conference in England in 1996, he was also requested as a member of a 45-member U.S. delegation led by Senator Mary Landrieau to meet with Dutch engineers and scientists on coastal protection in the Netherlands.

For his efforts over the years, Mr. Lienhart received the Publication of the Year Award from the Association of Environmental and Engineering Geologists, the ASTM Special Publication Award and the Outstanding Public Service Award from the City of Cincinnati. He was also named as the Greater Cincinnati Federal Employee of the Year in the scientific category for his work on the hydrology of the Fernald superfund site in western Hamilton County, Ohio, through the Department of Justice.

Mr. Lienhart maintains his affiliation with the Geological Society of America, the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Association of Engineering Geologists, the National Ground Water Association, the Geological Society of Kentucky and the International Society of Engineering Geologists, among others. In accounting for his standout success, he credits the influence of his maternal grandfather, Wilbur E. Burger, who was a lifetime student of the arts and sciences. In the coming years, Mr. Lienhart plans to continue excelling in his field and search for more interesting geological phenomena.
