Mr. Waxman obtained a Bachelor of Arts in political science, cum laude, from the University of Southern California in 1976 and a Juris Doctor from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Law in 1979. Since 1984, Mr. Waxman has been an attorney and partner in Ervin, Cohen & Jessup LLP in Beverly Hills. His areas of practice include general business, commercial and information technology litigation, partnership and shareholder disputes, class action litigation and unfair competition and misappropriation of trade secrets. He additionally focuses his work on employment disputes, Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act litigation, computer software and intellectual property litigation, insurance coverage and bad faith disputes. Moreover, he has been retained and has testified as an expert witness in a bad faith insurance dispute involving advertising injury and copyright infringement issues, in a law partnership dissolution case and in a limited liability company breach of managing member fiduciary duty dispute. According to Mr. Waxman, his most notable achievement to date was making new law in a SLAPP lawsuit designed to censor or intimidate critics by burdening them with the cost of a legal defense until they abandon their criticism or opposition.
Mr. Waxman is also noted as a gifted public speaker and writer. He was appointed as the editor-in-chief of the UCLA Alaska Law Review and has composed articles for the Los Angeles Daily Journal, Los Angeles County Bar and Los Angeles Lawyer. Likewise, he has had published interviews in European Court of Justice Legal Update, WallStreetReporter.com and California Law Business. In addition, Mr. Waxman has spoken publicly with accountants', attorneys' and podiatrists' groups.
