Though she was driven to excel as a music teacher since coming of age, Ms. Hill embarked upon her career as a first-grade teacher with Gary Community Schools during the early-1970s. Years later, the school discovered her musical talent and accepted her as a teacher, where she specialized in piano, organ and violin classes for nearly 35 years. Since 2004, she has channeled her considerable expertise into giving private classes. Though her career has been suffused with highlights, Ms. Hill is most proud to have been the first to teach Michael Jackson at Garnett Elementary School; she was the one who discovered his voice.
Before embarking upon her professional journey, Ms. Hill earned a Bachelor of Arts from Lincoln University. She subsequently received a Master of Arts in music performance and general psychology from Valparaiso University. In order to remain aware of changes in the field, she aligns herself with the AARP, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the American Association for Retired Teachers. In conjunction with her work, Ms. Hill serves as an organ player at her church and volunteers within the community.
For her outstanding body of work, Ms. Hill has been honored several times, earning an award for participation in the community and recognition through Cambridge Who's Who Among American Teachers. Looking toward the future, she intends to remain open to new opportunities within the field. Ultimately, Ms. Hill would like to teach several classes out of her home.
