Now a retired psychotherapist, Dr. Yarborough enjoyed a diverse career for more than 35 years. During the earliest stages of her career, she was a successful graphic, scenic and lighting designer for the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh and for the organization Educational TV. Subsequently transitioning into massage therapy, she established and directed the very first school in all of Wisconsin, the Lakeside School of Natural Therapeutics, which she managed between 1985 and 1994. After returning to school, Dr. Yarborough began working as a trauma counselor and psychotherapist for the Acacia Clinic.
A talented writer, Dr. Yarborough has authored several books, including "Inspirations for Crochet" and "Jacob's Road." She also became involved in political cartoons for the Eureka Springs Independent and has contributed articles to the Carroll County Newspaper and the Citizen. Dr. Yarborough plans to continue writing in retirement and anticipates illustrating a story regarding a man from China and his affiliation with the People to People program in 1989.
As a part of her commitment to the community, Dr. Yarborough has lent her expertise by volunteering and donating to such organizations as the Purple Flower Domestic Violence Resource Center and the Cup of Love Food Resource Center. Aligning herself with several industry-related organizations, she was active with the American Massage Therapy Association. Dr. Yarborough notably served as the organization's Wisconsin education director and as a past president.
Dr. Yarborough received a Bachelor of Fine Arts, with a minor in drama, at Eastern Kentucky University in 1968. While pursuing her undergraduate degree, she also completed a work-study program in a local radio and film department. She later earned a Master of Science in art therapy at Mount Mary University in 1996 and a Doctor of Philosophy in psychology at Saint John's University in 1998. Additional educational pursuits to Dr. Yarborough's credit include an internship at the VA Hospital, where she worked with soldiers suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and the Healing Center in Milwaukee, through which she helped individuals suffering from domestic violence and sexual assault.
