While coming of age, Mr. Blackford drew greatly from the influence of his grandfather, an amateur jazz band drummer. Specializing in playing the piano, his parents allowed him to start lessons at six, and eventually learned from the head of the Philadelphia Musical Academy Piano Department, under whom he studied through both his undergraduate and graduate level studies. Mr. Blackford received a Bachelor of Music in music education and a Master of Music from the Philadelphia College of Performing Arts. He is also a certified music teacher for grades K-12 in the State of New Jersey and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Blackford began his career as an organist and choir director at Trinity Episcopal Church. Presently, he serves as an accompanist and director of the Cinnaminson Community Chorus. He was a vocal teacher in the Waterford Township School District from 1985 until his retirement in 2017. Throughout the course of his career, Mr. Blackford is most proud to have participated in his senior year piano recital in college. In 2012, he also delivered a concert celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Cinnaminson Community Chorus.
As a respected musician, Mr. Blackford received a proclamation from the Mayor of Cinnaminson. In addition, he has been presented with the Teacher Recognition Award from the Governor of New Jersey and the Philadelphia College of Performing Arts Alumni Graduation Award.
