Dr. Ashish Sachan, DVM, MVSC, PhD, is a Director at North America Technologies and Business Inc. Dr. Sachan completed his bachelor's degree in Veterinary Medicine and master's degree in Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology from the Veterinary College in Bangalore, India. He then received a Doctor of Philosophy in 'Toxicology' from the Department of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Molecular Biology, Iowa State University, USA in 2012. His PhD research involved the development of aptasensor technologies to detect toxic chemical species of forensic significance. During his PhD program, Dr. Sachan worked on projects sponsored by the United States Department of Energy (DOE) and the United States Department of Justice (DOJ). In recognition of high scholarship during his graduate program Dr. Ashish has been inducted into The Honor Society of Agriculture- Gamma Sigma Delta.
Dr. Sachan pursued the field of toxicology because of its highly dynamic and interdisciplinary nature. The toxicants remain a major challenge for the society and public health authorities all over the world. Toxicology plays a major role, and it is difficult to find an aspect in our daily lives that is not impacted by this science. Dr. Sachan believes that toxicological sciences are fundamentally essential for the well-being of environment and all life on Earth.
Dr. Sachan has been involved with toxicological sciences for more than twenty years in both the university and industrial settings. He is an entrepreneur, veterinarian, scientist, author, and a thought leader. His publications and books have widely covered advancements in the field of pharmacology and toxicology, including research topics related to ethnopharmacology, pesticide toxicology, and nanosensor technologies. Alongside his primary work, Dr. Sachan was the co-editor of "Food Toxicology: Current Advances and Future Challenges," in 2018. Dr. Sachan is licensed in Toxicology by the College of Veterinarians of Ontario (CVO). Dr. Sachan is a member of Society of Toxicology (SOT) and he has also served on the board of directors of the Society of Toxicology of Canada (STC).
Dr. Sachan has a unique political side to his profile as a Toxicologist. During his PhD program, Ashish joined Iowa State University Ambassadors, a lobbying and advocacy student arm for the Student Government and the University, to advocate and represent student interests with the state legislators at the Iowa State Capitol.
In 2013, Dr. Sachan immigrated to Canada and settled in the city of Guelph. Dr. Sachan ran to become the Member of Parliament for Guelph from the Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) in 2019 Federal Elections. In March of 2021, he again won the nomination election in Guelph riding to be the CPC Candidate for the next federal Election. Dr. Ashish stands as the first toxicologist to run for Member of Parliament. Dr. Sachan believes that science and politics are essentially interrelated, and scientific inquiry/evidence-based decision making, is the necessary component of the overall political process.
Dr. Sachan also keeps himself strongly connected with the social and cultural fabric of the community. He is the recipient of Canada Sesquicentennial Community Leader Award, 2017, for demonstrating exceptional leadership and for making outstanding contributions in the City of Guelph. In recognition of his outstanding contributions and his generosity of time and efforts to enrich the community, Ashish received the Community Champion Award at the Guelph & District Multicultural Festival in 2019.
Dr. Sachan has also participated as a Mentor in the Toxicology Mentoring and Skills Development Training Program funded by the National Institute of Health (NIH) "to provide career development opportunities for STEM undergraduates from diverse underserved backgrounds". Dr. Sachan's career goal is to provide technological and business solutions for a broad range of issues, including but not limited to, food safety/security and environmental protection.
