Born and raised in Nigeria, Dr. Igbinosa would regularly read and discuss the news of the world with his friends. During one particular meeting, he was informed of the HIV epidemic, which was just beginning to develop around the world. From that point onward, Dr. Igbinosa made it his mission to develop medication for the disease. Though treatment was already developed by the time he became a doctor, the epidemic served as his inspiration to study medicine and share his findings in the field of infectious diseases. To this day, Dr. Igbinosa continues to care for patients with HIV.
Dr. Igbinosa received a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry from Delta State University in Abraka, Nigeria, in 2004. In 2007, he obtained a Bachelor of Medical Sciences from the University of St. Eustatius School of Medicine in the Dutch Caribbean, where he later earned his Doctor of Medicine in 2008. He is certified in infectious diseases and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. In addition, he maintains involvement with the Infectious Disease Society of America, the International Society for Infectious Disease and the American College of Physicians.
Dr. Igbinosa completed his residency at the Drexel University Medical School and St. Peter's University Hospital between 2009 and 2012. During this time, he was awarded First Prize for his postal and oral presentations for the Annual Research Day in 2011 and 2012. He holds medical licensure in the District of Columbia and the State of Maryland. He has further contributed to multiple publications, lectures and presentations and has served on various editorial boards.
Dr. Igbinosa was honored as one of Washing D.C.'s Top Doctors by Washingtonian Magazine in 2021. Looking toward the future, he aims to mentor medical students and infections disease trainees at Washington Hospital Center and Georgetown University Hospital. Additionally, he intends to work diligently to advance his current practice.
