With more than 30 years of professional experience, Ms. Ryan retired in 1998 from her primary role as Vice President of Human Resources and Legal Officer for TeamStaff Companies, an employee leasing firm, and President of HRI Consulting, a human resources consulting firm, which she had begun as Ryan Associates of Tampa in 1989. During the 1990s, Ms. Ryan served as Trainer for the Club Managers Association of America servicing Florida Chapters, an adjunct instructor in management classes at St. Petersburg College, and an instructor for the exam preparation classes for the Society of Human Resource Management. She was a member of the Florida Speakers Bureau and a guest speaker at the University of South Florida, the IRS Audit Division Annual Conference; and the International Association of Engineers Annual Conference. Ms. Ryan returned to the full-time workforce in 2017 at the Teacher Resource Center where she serves the academic community as part of the Member Support Staff.
Ms. Ryan served the University of Tampa from 1985-1995 in several positions, beginning as a Benefits Manager in 1985 and rising to the office of Vice President of Human Resources from 1990-1995. During her time at the University of Tampa, she was a member of the Tampa Welcome Committee for HRH Queen Elizabeth of the United Kingdom during her visit to Tampa, Florida. Her previous career experience included her position as Regional Assistant at Talbert, Cox & Associates from 1985 to 1984; Benefits Manager with J.M. Tull Industries, Inc., from 1980 to 1982; and as a legal secretary for Powell, Goldstein Frazer & Murphy from 1976 to 1980. In her earlier career, Ms. Ryan held the position of Regional Assistant at Denny's, Inc., from 1974 to 1976, and Manager of Personnel and Benefits at Neptune International from 1973 to 1974; all after starting her career as a stenographer with the Atlanta Police Department from 1969 to 1973.
Ms. Ryan has always been involved in her community as evidenced by her participation as a member of the Drug Free Task Force with the Tampa Chamber of Commerce, as well as her service on the Board of Directors of the Spring of Tampa Bay during the 1990s; and the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of the Unites States of America in the 1980s. For over a decade Ms. Ryan was a member of the Civil Air Patrol Composite Unit at MacDill Air Force base in Tampa, Florida, and she was an active member of the Military Social Action Committee of the Tampa Chamber of Commerce during the 1990s. Following her retirement, Ms. Ryan continues her community involvement through her service to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Rome, Georgia since 2000; her participation as a member of the Review Panel of the Juvenile Court of Floyd County since 2015; and her work at the Tellus Science Museum since 2013. She has also served as Editor of the Cat Tracks Newsletter and Assistant Editor of the Urlar from 2000 to 2010. The Cat Tracks is a youth publication and the Urlar is an adult publication of the Clan MacPherson Association, a Scottish heritage organization. Both publications are cataloged in the Library of Congress.
Ms. Ryan has written several books, including two cookbooks: "A Southern Heritage" and "A Taste of Tradition;" and an ancestry history for "The Generations of James Robert and Eva Louise Smith." Her professional affiliations have been with the National Association for Female Executives, the Society for Human Resource Management, the West Coast Employers Association, the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources, and the Executive Service Corps of Tampa.
After being in the workforce for several years, Ms. Ryan began her pursuit of a college degree at DeKalb Community College, now known as Georgia Perimeter College. She completed her Bachelor of Arts in management in 1990 at National Louis University. She holds a Trainer certification from the University of Central Florida, and she is a Certified Senior Professional in Human Resources and a Certified Professional Employer Specialist.
Throughout her career, Ms. Ryan has been recognized for her contributions. She was named Senior Member of the Year by Civil Air Patrol, ESCOT Consultant in Appreciation by the Executive Corps of Tampa, and Director of the Year by the University of Tampa She received Outstanding Service Awards from both the Girl Scouts of America and Pierce Junior High School in Tampa, Florida; and she received an honorable mention award for the Cat Tracks newsletter in a national writer's competition. She has been featured in numerous honors publications, including Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who of American Women and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
