Drawing influence from the example of his own family, Dr. Long earned an Associate of Science in business administration and management from Northern Virginia Community College in 1997, a Bachelor of Science in business administration and management from George Mason University's School of Business in 1999, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Mary Washington in 2005, and a DBA in business administration from William Howard Taft University in 2016. While pursuing his business degree, he also began as an adjunct professor at both of his alma maters. Upon graduating, Dr. Long also gained valuable professional expertise as an operation manager for George Mason University and the University of Mary Washington.
Supported by his considerable expertise, Dr. Long excels today as the owner of a small business consultancy, and an adjunct professor for George Mason University and Northern Virginia Community College, where he teaches business analytics, and information technology classes to undergraduate students and offers training and guidance sessions to faculty colleagues. Alongside his work in consulting and education, he channels his expertise in business and program development to his role as a business office manager for the Prince William County Government. In this capacity, Dr. Long oversees administrative and logistical matters, increases productivity via progress tracking systems and develops staff to improve individual career paths and performance.
Over the years, Dr. Long fostered his love for writing. After finding the inspiration to write a book for a little girl who lost her father, he published nearly 250 books, including "A Possum's Christmas Tale", "A Possum's Happy Birthday," "A Possum's Happy Valentine's Day," "A Possum's Gold Rush and His Discovery of the American Frontier" and various other works in his history series. Additionally, through A Possum's Company LLC, Dr. Long provides curriculum, reading and writing workshops, and educational materials for schools across America. His books have been recognized as a valuable asset by several historical foundations, and are sold in museums and gift shops. He also authored the book "Management and Leadership Skills That Affect Small Business Survival."
Alongside his work in the field, Dr. Long contributes to his community through the Bethel United Methodist Church as a superintendent for the school and a youth minister. Dedicated to building young disciples for Jesus Christ, he serves as a spiritual leader and role model, implements youth ministries at all levels within the church, supports and guides the work of the pastor, and works in partnership with the religious education director and parish council to effectively reach youth in the parish. Since 2002, he has also volunteered with Junior Achievement USA. Although his career has been suffused with highlights, he is most proud to have completed his doctorate with a 4.0 GPA while working three jobs. In the near future, Dr. Long intends to continue along the same path while remaining open to new opportunities.
