BLOOMINGTON, IN, May 18, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Roger Kalia has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
As the only musician in his family, Dr. Kalia has had many musical influences from a young age. In high school, he joined the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra as a trumpet player, performing for a summer in China on an eight-city tour which inspired him to pursue music in college. In addition, he had the opportunity to travel to Lincoln Center with his high school band to witness the New York Philharmonic during an open rehearsal, which was his first introduction to classical masterpieces and sparked his interest in conducting. Dr. Kalia subsequently earned a Bachelor of Music degree in music education from the SUNY Potsdam Crane School of Music, a Master of Music degree in orchestral conducting from the University of Houston and a Doctor of Music degree in orchestral conducting from Indiana University.
Dr. Kalia began his career as the music director of the Young Musicians Foundation (YMF) Debut Orchestra in Los Angeles. He additionally worked as the music director of the Columbus (IN) Symphony Orchestra and the Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra. He has further flourished as music director of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra, Symphony New Hampshire, and Orchestra Santa Monica. In his present positions, Dr. Kalia serves as an ambassador for the aforementioned orchestras, meeting with donors, preparing scores and conducting musicians in rehearsals and concerts.
Throughout his career, Dr. Kalia has been incredibly proud of his work as music director and co-founder with the Lake George Music Festival, which has been in operation for 10 years. For his exemplary efforts over the years, he has been featured in Symphony Magazine. He was also presented with five Career Assistance Awards from the Solti Foundation US, an Elizabeth Buccheri Opera Residency fellowship with the Lyric Opera of Chicago and a Chicago Sinfonietta Project Inclusion Fellowship. Previously, Dr. Kalia was a prize winner in the Memphis Symphony Orchestra International Conducting Competition, which led to his debut with the orchestra the following season and launched his professional career.
Throughout his career, Dr. Kalia has attributed his professional success to hard work, determination and numerous teachers who offered advice and support during his education. He maintains his professional affiliation with the League of American Orchestras, the Conductors Guild and Phi Kappa Lambda. In the coming years, he plans to build upon the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra to perform across the tri-state area and record professional albums. In addition, Dr. Kalia would also hope to advance to become the music director of a major symphony orchestra in the United States or Europe.
