After receiving an Associate of Arts in Interior Design from Bauder College and a Bachelor of Science in Management from DeVry University, Ms. James embarked upon a career in the corporate world, from which she eventually departed to establish her own business. Her inspiration to stage social events led her to coordinate her brother's wedding reception. Gradually she began to transition to corporate event planning. During a later stage of her professional journey, Ms. James felt compelled to contribute to the efforts of her fellow women. Furthermore, she serves as the Atlanta Chapter Leader of the World Women Conference & Awards, the Executive Director of Times of Expression & Refreshing Ministries and the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Designer Events by LaKisha.
With her event planning company, Ms. James primarily serves as a decision maker. Also, she organizes facilities and event details daily. This includes décor, catering, entertainment, transportation, location, guest lists, equipment, and promotional materials. In addition, she confers with clients to manage factors of budgetary concerns, and architectural preferences. For her efforts over the years, Ms. James was recognized as a CEO on the Rise by Who's Who of Urban CEOs. Not to mention, she was nominated as a Talented CEO and Philanthropist of the Year. Ms. James received the Leadership Award at the World Women V.I.S.I.O.N Awards.
As a leader of the World Women Conference & Awards, Ms. James strives to support all women. Together, they share strategies and experiences to learn from one another. Ms. James empowers women to reflect on their success through collaboration, so that everyone has the opportunity to tell their story and potentially help one another.
Ms. James was notably featured in Bossed-Up & Empowered, and in "ATL Most Inspiring Stories" through VoyageATL Magazine. Civically, Ms. James has been active with Black Women Networking International (BWN) and the Atlanta Mission. Throughout the course of her career, she has been most proud of her work as a mother to her two daughters.
