Driven to pursue a career in law, Mr. Walton earned a Bachelor of Arts in behavioral sciences and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Southern Methodist University in 1971 and 1975 respectively. Upon graduating, he gained valuable expertise in the field, serving as an associate general counsel for Browning-Ferris Industries Inc. and its subsidiaries, as a partner with Hoover, Bax & Shearer and as an ombudsman for the Triple Nine Society. Additionally, Mr. Walton worked as the vice president and general counsel for USPCI and as a general solicitor for Union Pacific, from which he retired in 2004.
Drawing on his extensive legal expertise, Mr. Walton began utilizing his unique skill set as the principal attorney and mediator for the Office of M.C. Walton, where he remains today. Alongside his work with his private firm, he works as a principal of Partners Legal Search. In his current work, Mr. Walton specializes in the mediation of civil disputes, including complex commercial and tort litigation, mediation and negotiation advocacy, crisis management for railroads, mass disaster litigation, and flood and railroad litigation. His has been involved in the railroad industry dating back to the Civil War era.
A seasoned attorney, mediator and legal recruiter, Mr. Walton has achieved much throughout his storied 45-year-long career. In addition to helping manage and settle a class action suit arising from a derailment in Eunice, Louisiana, back in 2000, he graduated at the top of his class in law school. Likewise, Mr. Walton served as the editor-in-chief of the school's law review and developed some techniques for managing the relationships between large companies and their insurers that have made their interactions more smooth and successful.
Licensed through the State Bar of Texas, Mr. Walton furthered his education in 2007, earning a 40-hour certificate in mediation through the Center for Public Policy Dispute Resolution. In order to remain aware of changes in the field, he aligns himself with the Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity. Outside of his work, he has devoted himself to the industry and his community in various board positions for the Greater Houston Preservation Alliance, the Briar Club, St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, the Young Audiences of Houston, the Texas Council on Economic Education and the Texas Civil Justice League, to name only a few. Looking toward the future, Mr. Walton intends to continue building upon his reputation with top-tier law firms across the nation.
