CRANSTON, RI, May 28, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Mary D. Giordano has been included in Marquis Who's Who. With many years of experience as an educator, psychologist and business administrator to her credit, Ms. Giordano has sought to make a difference in the lives of her students throughout the duration of her career. Notably, she has found success as the principal of various Providence schools, the coordinator of pre-school at the New Era Academy and a psychologist, administrator and coordinator for gifted children for the Providence School Department.
Ms. Giordano obtained a Bachelor of Science in social science and psychology from Amherst College in 1968. Continuing her academic efforts apace, she later received a Master of Education from Providence College in 1975. Ms. Giordano went on to study at Walden University, from which she earned a Doctor of Philosophy in psychology in 1979, and a Doctor of Education from Nova Southeastern University in 1980.
Ms. Giordano furthered her education by earning an additional CAGS in school psychology from UMASS Amherst College in 1994 and by completing nursing and science coursework at Salve Regina University in 1997. She has also earned certification as a school psychologist, as well as a nursing home administrator. To remain aware of developments in the field of education, Ms. Giordano maintains her membership with the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress, the American Psychological Association, the Home Builders Association and the National Association of Certified School Psychologists. Aside from all of her academic accomplishments, she was also Mrs. Rhode Island and went on to receive Mrs. Congeniality nationally in 1982.
While working at St. Joseph's Hospital to become a nurse, Ms. Giordano was introduced to a principal who hired her on behalf of the Providence School Department. Thereafter, she was able to finish her college degree in three years. In this new career path, Ms. Giordano realized her passion in working with children and felt compelled to aid inner-city students. She subsequently began working in community centers in impoverished neighborhoods to develop school and family partnerships.
Ms. Giordano has authored such works as "Choices," "Hidden Violence? Children Waking Up In America:' "The Family Album. Friends and Food,"' and has co-authored 'The Walking Wounded." She also presented the keynote address for Sgt. Colonel Young Jr., a fallen Providence police officer, to promote racial harmony in the community. Likewise, Ms. Giordano pal1icipates on the Rhode Island Builders Association Women's Council and on the board for the Edgewood Waterfront Association.
Ms. Giordano is gratified to have been a recipient of the Angels Among Us Outstanding Women Award from the YMCA of Greater Rhode Island, the Woman of the Year Award from the Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce and the Millennium Lady Service Award from the Vince Lombardi Lodge of Kent County Order Sons of Italy in America. Additionally, she was named as the Woman of the Year by the Home Builders Association in 2005, and has been included as part of Who's Who in American Teachers. In accounting for her standout success, Ms. Giordano credits her ability to view every person as equal.
