Dr. Lonsdale enjoyed an incredibly successful and rewarding career for more than 60 years as a physician who specialized in pediatrics. Born in Lancashire, England, he graduated with the degree of MB BS from the University of London in 1948. After National Service as a Medical Officer in the Royal Air Force, and as a family physician under the National Health Service, he emigrated to Canada. After serving a short service commission as a Medical Officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1957 to 1960, he arrived in the US where he refined his skills with the Cleveland Clinic as a pediatrics resident in 1960 and staff pediatrician in 1962. In 1982, Dr. Lonsdale returned to private practice with the Preventive Medicine Group in Westlake, where he would eventually retire in 2012.
During his tenure at the Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Lonsdale solved a significant medical case that would end up becoming the very first of its kind regarding vitamin B1 deficiency. After extensive studies and tests on a six-year-old child who was having episodes of cerebellar ataxia, he discovered that he could benefit from megadoses of vitamin B1. Best known for his expertise concerning the biochemistry of metabolism, Dr. Lonsdale has notably conducted a wealth of research in his field.
Dr. Lonsdale also worked as a clinical assistant professor of genetics at Case Western Reserve University and a clinical associate professor of chemistry at Cleveland State University. Formerly elected as president of the Philosophical Club of Cleveland, he was recruited as a member of the board of trustees of his local United Church of Christ in Strongsville, Ohio. A member of the American College for Advancement in Medicine, Dr. Lonsdale was active as a fellow of the American College of Nutrition and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Moreover, Dr. Lonsdale has authored over 100 scholarly journal articles publishing his findings. He likewise authored "A Nutritionist's Guide to Clinical Use of Vitamin B1" in 1987, "Why I Left Orthodox Medicine: Healing for the 21st Century" in 1994 and "A Nutritional Approach to a Revised Model for Medicine: Is Modern Medicine Helping You?" in 2013. He recently co-authored "Thiamine Deficiency Disease, Dysautonomia, and High Calorie Malnutrition" in 2017. Dr. Lonsdale was formerly appointed as the editor of the Journal of Advancement in Medicine.
Dr. Lonsdale is Board Certified in Pediatrics, a Fellow of the American College of Nutrition and a Certified Specialist in Nutrition.
