NEW YORK, NY, June 07, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present James Sloan Altschul, JD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Altschul celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Having served as the president of Aviation Advisory Service Inc., in New York City, since 1992, Mr. Altschul was indoctrinated in the complexities of the family-owned business (and of the airline industry) from his father, its original founder and a pioneer in aviation finance. Established in 1947 as a financial consulting firm that specialized in the airline and aerospace industries, Aviation Advisory Service now focuses primarily on the development and management of hangars for small airplanes. Mr. Altschul, who first joined the organization in 1990, spent the first two years of his career at Aviation Advisory Service as its vice president.
In 2004, Mr. Altschul established Hayward Hangers LLC, in Hayward, California, and continues to act as its president. Hayward Hangars is located at Hayward Executive Airport, which is the premier general aviation airport in the San Francisco Bay area.
A skilled attorney and businessperson, Mr. Altschul co-founded California Hangars LLC in 1997 and served as a managing member until 2014. California Hangars was the first retail partnership to invest in an airplane hangar project. He also served as an arbitrator for FINRA from 2009 to 2012, spent 10 years with K-One Investment Company in New York City as a registered representative and president between 1997 and 2007 and, after graduating from law school, worked as an associate attorney for Davis, Polk and Wardwell for two years, beginning in 1988. After joining Aviation Advisory Service, Mr. Altschul also spent two years as a New York correspondent for Commercial Aviation Report between 1992 and 1994. His expertise as a journalist stems from his previous engagements as a Tokyo correspondent for Asia Banking magazine and as a contributor to the Economist Financial Report and to Euromoney Publications PLC, in both Tokyo and New York City. He has also written for The New York Times, the Financial Times, and the International Herald Tribune.
Besides his full-time commitments, Mr. Altschul spent several years in various other roles for such organizations as a consultant to Enskilda Securities in Tokyo. He lectured at the Cranfield University Aircraft Finance Short Course in the U.K. in 1999. In 1996, Mr. Altschul also had the opportunity to co-chair the AIC Aircraft Finance Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. He has addressed both the general session and the tax and finance panel of the Regional Airline Association annual convention.
In 1992, Mr. Altschul became a published author with the release of "The Export Finance Crisis," a study of the shortage of export credit available to U.S. exporters. His parents (Marylin Bender and Selig Altschul) wrote a book about Pan American Airways, which was published in 1982 and titled "The Chosen Instrument." This book was dedicated to Mr. Altschul for his substantial research efforts on behalf of the book. His parents were close friends with Willis Player, a former senior vice president of public affairs for the famed airline, who was one of Mr. Altschul's most important mentors.
Born and raised in New York City, Mr. Altschul long maintained his dedication to giving back to the community. Among his efforts, he served on the corporate advisory board of the Doe Fund from 2008 to 2013. Mr. Altschul subsequently joined the program committee of the Fixed Income Analysts Society between 2009 and 2010.
Mr. Altschul studied at Harvard University, acquiring a Bachelor of Arts in East Asian Studies in 1982. At Harvard, he founded the Southeast Asia Seminar at the Center for International Affairs and organized a panel discussion at the Kennedy School of Government on the refugee crisis in East Africa. He subsequently completed postgraduate coursework at the International Christian University in Tokyo between 1982 and 1983 before acquiring both a Doctor of Jurisprudence and a Master of Business Administration at Columbia University in 1988. Mr. Altschul was recognized as a Harvard University scholar between 1980 and 1982 and a Harlan Fiske Stone scholar at Columbia from 1985 to 1986. Following the attainment of his law degree, he was admitted to practice in New York in 1989.
