Mr. McKinnie was recognized as the Law Enforcement Public Servant of the Year by the United Parish Chamber of Commerce in 2014, as well as the Citizen of the Year by the local town council in 2016.

Additionally, Mr. McKinnie has maintained involvement as a lieutenant at the United Parish Sheriff Office where he has been employed since 1995, he has served as felon warrant deputy, Probation Deputy, Narcotics Task Force, Crime Stoppers Supervisor, and Street Crimes Unit, he is currently the supervisor for courts security and civil processing in the civil division.
While coming of age, Mr. McKinnie took an interest in law enforcement and nature. One particular summer, he worked in the Youth Conservation Corps on the National Wildlife Refuge. This position sparked his interest, and he subsequently studied criminal justice at the University of Louisiana Monroe. At 18-years-old, Mr. McKinnie established himself as a reserve deputy before continuing his career at the sheriff's office in Union Parish. He attended Northeast Louisiana Regional Police Academy in 1994 at the age of 19.
In order to earn extra income, Mr. McKinnie built deer stands during his free time. He eventually turned his hobby into a business, Clear Cut Deer Stands LLC and later changing the name to Tiger Bend Outdoors LLC. Following this period, Mr. McKinnie became active with his local chamber of commerce in 2008, where he served on the board three years and was chairman of the board in 2017.
Presently, Mr. McKinnie participates on the board of directors of the Legends of Outdoors National Hall of Fame, in Paris, Tennessee. He also helped start, The State of Louisiana Chapter of the Legends of the Outdoors in 2019. He is also the founder of the Promoted Youth Hunting in his Parish, as well as president of the Union Parish Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation and the Tiger Bend Hunting Club. He is ecommerce manager for Cedar Hill Game Calls in Downsville, LA. Well regarded for his expertise in outdoorsmanship, Mr. McKinnie regularly contributes pertinent articles to local newspapers. His recent interest has become removal of nuisance feral hogs from his community removing over 350 from people's yards, timber and farm lands.
