Though she has been a dedicated and passionate environmental educator for over 40 years, Dr. Wintz originally considered a completely different career. While attending the University of Pennsylvania, she pursued studies in fine arts and architecture. However, these plans were redirected when the university decided to eliminate a number of programs and replace them with more current applications. After obtaining a Bachelor of Applied Arts in 1955, he explored a variety of fields before finally finding her calling in environmentalism. Dr. Wintz continued her education at Arcadia University, formerly known as Beaver College, from which she earned a master's degree in environmental education in 1979.
Dr. Wintz was later appointed as the director of education for an environmental group, the Pennypack Watershed Association. Now known as the Pennypack Ecological Restoration Trust, the membership-based group's initial goal was to improve water quality in the Pennypack Creek watershed in Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania. About ten years into her environmental career, Dr. Wintz enrolled at Temple University to hone her prowess as an educator. She subsequently graduated with a Doctor of Education focused specifically on curriculum studies in 1987 and continued to lead the Pennypack Watershed Association's educational efforts for more than 20 years.
In the early 2000s, Dr. Wintz moved to Colorado after the loss of her husband and near loss of the family home by fire. As a result, her mission as an environmentalist is now active with the Fremont County Heritage Commission, for which she writes educational materials. Dr. Wintz additionally holds her membership with many organizations, such as the Fremont Historical Society, the Old York Road Historical Society, the Florence Historical Commission, and the Florence Historical Archive, with which she has also worked as an archivist since 2011.
Dr. Wintz has received a number of prestigious accolades throughout her career. Notably, she had been recognized as the Woman of the Year by Upper Moreland Township in Pennsylvania, and Outstanding Citizen, in Florence, Colorado. Dr. Wintz was presented with the William Penn Award, which celebrates significant contributions to the business and civic advancement to the greater Philadelphia region.
