XENIA, OH, June 14, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Rita K. Coleman with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Coleman celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Attributing more than four decades of experience to her success, Ms. Coleman began her career as a journalist for the Dayton Daily News in Dayton, Ohio, in 1978. Gaining further expertise, she left the paper just two years later and began her journey as a freelance writer. Eventually, Ms. Coleman had the opportunity to serve as an author-in-residence at Saint Brigid Middle School in Xenia, Ohio, in 1994 and, four years later, co-founded her own business, Mudrock Writers, in Dayton.
Ms. Coleman began a second career in academia between 1995 and 1998, during which time she taught writing and poetry courses at her alma mater, Wright State University, and at the University of Dayton. She also became a facilitator for student writing and poetry workshops at the local public school system. Outside of writing and teaching, Ms. Coleman continues to remain active as a contributor on a local radio poetry show, "Conrad's Corner", on WYSO FM 91.3 since 2009.
An award-winning writer, Ms. Coleman has published numerous works of poetry, including "Mystic Connections" and "And Yet," as well as several anthologies. She has held numerous poetry readings and book signings, which have extensively featured her work. Additionally, Ms. Coleman has served as a judge for the annual Beavercreek Library poetry contest for the elementary students and at the Washington Township-Centerville Library, where middle school students have showcased their work. She has also been instrumental in evaluating high school student essays.
Learning the art of writing while in high school, Ms. Coleman was particularly gratified when her first piece of fiction was printed by her school, which was a considerable honor. Holding onto that feeling of success, she felt compelled to continue her studies in writing once she finished high school. Attending Wright State University, Ms. Coleman earned a Bachelor and Master of Arts in English in 1995 and 1997, respectively. She also completed postgraduate coursework at Thomas Moore University between 2015 and 2017 and studied poetry with Pauletta Hansel, Cincinnati's first poet laureate.
Ms. Coleman received awards from the Kentucky State Poetry Society, the Greater Cincinnati Writer's League and the Tallahassee Writers Association for her poetry and from the Tallahassee Writers Association for the manuscript of her children's book.
