Inspired to help others, Dr. Baumann pursued a career in medicine, flourishing as a physician in the Atlanta area between 1992 and 2016. During this time, she practiced at Emory Clinic as an anesthesiologist, as well as serving her many patients in her practice of Pain Management. She was Clinical Director of the Pain Consultation Service at Emory University Hospital, and improved patient care for many years through her leadership position as chairman of the multidisciplinary Pain Care Committee. Over the years, she also shared her considerable knowledge in the academic setting of Emory University, where she both taught and supervised fellows, residents, physician assistants, and medical students. A devoted member of her community, Dr. Baumann has also contributed to those in need through her local Presbyterian Church.
In pursuit of her medical aspirations, Dr. Baumann initially enrolled at the University of South Carolina, earning a Bachelor of Science in 1973 and a Master's Degree in 1978. Subsequently, she graduated with a Doctor of Medicine from Emory University School of Medicine in 1988 before completing an internship and a residency in anesthesiology through her doctoral alma mater. She also did a pain management fellowship at Emory. Throughout her career, Dr. Baumann has retained her professional alignment with the American Medical Association, the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the American Society of Regional Anesthesia, the American Pain Society, and the American Society for Pain Management in order to remain aware of changes in the field. She also made presentations at the local and national level of these organizations. She was asked to share her expertise in pain management on both Fox News and CNN.
Due to her outstanding achievements in anesthesiology and pain medicine, Dr. Baumann was recognized by her colleagues with a Top Doctor Awards at the local level, as well as well as being recognized as Best Doctor in the United States for multiple years. She accepted a Top Doctor in Atlanta Award for fifteen years in a row. Looking toward the future, Dr. Baumann hopes to be where she needs to be in terms of helping others. She has never had a 5-year plan and instead allows life and opportunities to take her to her next calling. She is currently writing medical articles for her local newspaper. Dr. Baumann has received the Lilly Diabetes Journey Award for 50 years of a life well lived.
