DURHAM, NC, June 14, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Eugene C. Lofton Sr. has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Lofton is a Senior Manufacturing Training Specialist for KBI BIOPHARMA in Durham, North Carolina, a position he recently acquired in June 2021. He has been a leader in the industry for two decades. He previously worked at Biogen from August 2018 to April 2021. He also worked at Merck & Company in Durham, where he spent 11 years. He was initially hired as an employee development coordinator and was subsequently promoted to SRO business consultant specialist and diversity and inclusion specialist. Among other roles, Mr. Lofton spent 12 years as a Purification Technician and Production Foreman for Ajinomoto Co., Inc., between 1989 and 2001, a Japanese food and biotechnology corporation that produces an array of products, including cooking oils, amino acids and pharmaceuticals.
While at Biogen, Mr. Lofton was responsible for holding a very productive disability summit. The event brought numerous companies together to discuss hiring individuals with disabilities. The event helped launched the 1st Neurodiverse Internship Program at Biogen.
Initially becoming involved in working with people with disabilities while working at Merck, Mr. Lofton explained that a woman had come to Merck seeking surrogate parents to make educational decisions for children with disabilities currently living in the foster system. Interested in the opportunity, Mr. Lofton wound up fostering two young girls, which positively changed his life.
Passionate about diversity and inclusion, Mr. Lofton notes that some of the keys to his success have been predicated on his ability to follow his heart. Throughout his career, he has notably become an expert in equity and inclusion, talent management, client relationships, process improvement and leadership development, among other strengths. In the coming years, he intends to start his own consulting business with aspirations of collaborating with other organizations and participating in speaking engagement to further promote diversity, equity and inclusion.
Mr. Lofton was a board member for the United Christian Campus Ministry for two years from 2017 - 2019. He has also been involved in his local community with New Voices Foundation as a nomination committee member since 2011, and member of the board of directors since 2015. Furthermore, he became actively engaged as a surrogate parent for exceptional children with Durham Public Schools in 2011. Mr. Lofton continues to enjoy opportunities within the community. He currently serves as president of the Durham Interdenominational Ushers Union, and Trustee Chairman of the Interdenominational Usher Association of North Carolina. Mr. Lofton is also currently on the Board of Directors for Disability: IN North Carolina. In his spare time he has volunteered with the Boys and Girls Club of Durham and Orange Counties, the local food bank and the homeless population throughout his community.
Mr. Lofton studied at North Carolina Wesleyan College, where he achieved a Bachelor of Science in business administration. He also achieved a Master of Arts in education at the University of Phoenix and a Master of Science in organizational change and leadership at Pfeiffer University. Mr. Lofton holds several certifications, including in instructional design, change management and diversity, and holds a yellow belt LLS certification through Merck & Company.
Recently selected for a LEAD NC Willie Deese Pay It Forward Award from Merck & Company in 2018, Mr. Lofton has since also been honored with an Elements CEO Award for Inclusion and Pioneering in 2020 (Biogen). Additionally, he was featured as a Leader in Diversity in the Triangle Business Journal in 2020.
