WICHITA, KS, June 14, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Joyce Priess has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. After graduating from Stafford High School during the early 1950s, Ms. Priess pursued a higher education at Bethany College, earning a Bachelor of Music in applied piano in 1955 and a Bachelor of Music in music education in 1956. Driven to inspire others through her love of music, she began teaching elementary vocal music in Johnson, Kansas in 1956. After two years in this role, Ms. Priess transferred to Buhler Rural High School, where she taught piano and directed the Freshman and Sophomore Girl's Glee Club and Ensemble.
Over the years, Ms. Priess gained valuable expertise in the field, working as an accompanying staff member for the National Music Camp in Interlochen, Michigan, a piano, piano pedagogy and keyboard harmonization teacher for Bethany College and as a teacher with Friends University. Additionally, she has served as a church organist for First Christian Church, First United Methodist Church, Hutchinson Congregational and the Second Church of Jesus Christ. Ms. Priess has also maintained her professional alignment with such organizations as KMEA, MENC, Sigma Alpha Iota and the Wichita Area Piano Teachers League.
Throughout her career, Ms. Priess has been active as an accompanist for a plethora of recitals, competitions and juries, including "Cosi Fan Tutte" and "The Mikado" at Friends University. She applied her considerable experience to her post as an accompanist for the Rose Hill Master Chorale, alongside which she performed at the 500th Commemorative Concert, and the Wichita Symphony Orchestra Chorus.
In order to further her musical knowledge, Ms. Priess has continued her education with artistic studies in organ, theory and piano at Fort Hays State University, piano and piano literature at the University of Connecticut, and piano and art history at the University of Kansas. She additionally obtained a Master of Music in applied piano from Northwestern University. As a testament to her professional excellence, she was celebrated in Who's Who Among American Colleges and Universities, accepted the Sword of Honor from Sigma Alpha Iota and was recognized with the Rose of Honor from Theta Province. Looking toward the future, Ms. Priess intends to continue parlaying her love of music to others.
