Since 2018, Mr. Mengenhausen has been the CEO of Madelia Health, a small, acute-care facility serving the rural community of Madelia, Minnesota and surrounding communities. Dedicated to providing accessible and high-quality care to all in the region, Mr. Mengenhausen moved into the position to find a hospital that is really struggling and a rapidly widening budget deficit that he has completely reversed in just over two years. Under his guidance, Madelia Health has risen to be one of the National Rural Health Association's Top 20 Critical Access Hospitals for patient experience for the last two years, with patient and provider satisfaction scores at an all-time high, income growth of more than 200%, and newly-established specialty care departments including pain management, ophthalmology, and orthopedics. As he continues his work with Madelia Health, Mr. Mengenhausen is committed to continuing to expand access to care for residents of the region, with current projects including revitalizing municipal EMS services, opening a new clinic and retail pharmacy in an underserved community, and partnered with his local U.S. Congressman Jim Hagedorn to successfully change the federal COVID Provider Relief Funding for all Critical Access Hospitals across the country.
Mr. Mengenhausen holds both a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Master of Business Administration from American Intercontinental University. Before entering the healthcare industry, Mr. Mengenhausen served proudly as a U.S. Navy SEAL Special Operations Chief from 2001 until 2010, decorated with a Purple Heart, two Navy Commendation Medals with Combat Valor Medal, among many other honors. In 2007, he was named Director of Business Relations and Acquisition for Linxx Global Solutions., departing in 2011 when he became COO of Horizon Healthcare, Inc. After four years with Horizon Healthcare, Mr. Mengenhausen briefly served as CEO of Crook County Hospital before accepting a position as the Senior Executive Director of Monument Health in late 2015. He excelled with Monument Health until 2018, when he transitioned into his current role with Madelia Health.
In addition to his work in healthcare, Mr. Mengenhausen is an independent entrepreneur and the owner of Reef Adventures Belize Scuba Diving, a San Pedro-based dive shop and excursion company open since 2019. He has been featured on the cover of Minnesota Valley Business and is active in area business leadership organizations, serving as President of the Madelia Chamber of Commerce and Heart Shorn Manor, and as a member of the City of Madelia Economic Board and several committees of the Minnesota Hospital Association. He credits his success to his competitive nature, the work ethic and skills he learned in the Navy, and to the influence of his father, who spent nearly 40 years in healthcare management himself.
