Dr. O'Connor initially obtained an Associate of Arts in liberal arts from Lakewood College in 1987 before earning a degree from Northeast Metro Technical School in 1989 and a Bachelor of Arts from Metropolitan State University in 1992. He continued his education by receiving an Associate of Applied Science from Century College in 1998 and a Bachelor of Arts with a minor in project management from Metropolitan State University in 2004. Dedicated to building a career for himself, he earned a Master of Science in Technology Management from the University of St. Thomas in 2006, a Master of Science in Project Management, specializing in business, industry, life science and agriculture, from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in 2006, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix in 2009. He completed his education at the University of Maryland, College Park, A. James Clark School of Engineering in 2014, at which time he graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in civil engineering with a major in project management. Thereafter, he completed the executive program in corporate strategy at the University of Chicago in 2019.
Throughout his career, Dr. O'Connor is proud to have been presented with countless accolades. Some of his recent honors include the American Society for Quality Hutchens Medal for Social Responsibility, the Fellow Award from the Biomedical Engineering Society, the Project Management Award from the Project Management Institute Education Foundation, the Minnesota Campus Compact Presidents Civic Steward Award from Metropolitan State University, and the Innovative Project Manager Award from the Dubai International Project Management Forum. He has maintained professional affiliation with scores of organizations, including the Biomedical Engineering Society, the Engineering Alliance of Minnesota, the International Council on Systems Engineering, the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying, the Minnesota Academy of Science and the American Academy of Project Management. He attributes his success to the inspiring mentors with whom he has been fortunate enough to collaborate, including Professor Ginger Levine, who encouraged him to pursue a doctorate degree and teach at the university level.
