Airetta Myrick Recognized by Marquis Who's Who for Excellence in Social Work

Ms. Myrick has flourished in an advisory capacity in the Chicago public schools for 30 years



    CHICAGO, IL, June 23, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Airetta Myrick has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Ms. Myrick obtained a Bachelor of Arts in social psychology and applied behavioral science from George Williams College in Chicago, which has since merged with Aurora University, in 1973. She furthered her education with a Master of Social Work from Jane Addams College of Social Work, a division of the University of Illinois at Chicago, in 1984. Ms. Myrick earned a Diplomate in Clinical Social Work from the National Association of Social Workers and a license as a social worker in Illinois.

After excelling as a social worker from 1980 to 1984 at Metropolitan Family Services, Ms. Myrick flourished in social services in the Chicago public schools for over 30 years beginning in 1984. Her areas of expertise include teaching, customer service, volunteer management, community outreach, event planning, research, counseling psychology, public speaking, staff development and fundraising. She takes particular pride in her work in advising young people in which she aided students who were dealing with peer and relationship problems and family issues, making home visits and referring them to outside agencies and hospitals if necessary. Additionally, Ms. Myrick has been honored by the National Association of Black Social Workers for her decades of excellence.

In 2006, Ms. Myrick published "Mastering Challenges: Therapeutic Interventions in the Classroom," a book detailing step-by-step directions in counseling students in educational settings, containing thought-provoking exercises detailing problem solving, self analysis, coping skills and stress and anger management. She has also made substantial charitable contributions to the Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago and the George Williams College alumni fund, as well as various groups that aid Native Americans. She attributes her success in social work to her exceptional desire to help people. Though she is now retired, Ms. Myrick hopes to publish additional books including some poetry and intends to travel more in the coming years.
