Ms. Flowers is an attorney who has served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve Judge Advocate General's Corps (JAG) since 2012. In this capacity, she provides legal advice to commanders in administrative and international law and in Uniform Code of Military Justice matters, as well as to other military members in all areas of civil law, including family law, wills and powers-of-attorney. She currently holds the rank of captain. Assigned to Goodfellow Air Force Base, Ms. Flowers also serves as a representative on the Junior Officers Council. She has been decorated with the Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, and Armed Forces Reserve Medal.
In 2015, Ms. Flowers became a staff attorney with Lone Star Legal Aid. Representing the non-profit law firm in its Paris, Texas branch office, she provides free civil legal services to low-income individuals and families that cannot afford to retain an attorney. Ms. Flowers is assigned to the firm's Individual Safety Unit, which advocates for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence and advises on issues pertaining to divorce, child custody and other similar matters. Ms. Flowers seeks to empower survivors by ensuring safety and preserving basic legal rights.
Ms. Flowers previously worked as a staff attorney for Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma and represented clients in the southeastern region of the state. Before commissioning as a JAG, Ms. Flowers served as an enlisted member of the Air Force Reserve and has almost 15 years of total military service. To support her career in law, she maintains her membership with the American Bar Association and the Texas Bar College. Additionally, Ms. Flowers is involved in her community as a member of the American Legion and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Ms. Flowers' interest in public service developed while she was a student at Kaufman High School. After graduating, she initially attended Trinity Valley Community College on a full band scholarship. She later transferred to the University of Texas at Austin, where she became a member of the Texas Longhorn Band and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in government and history. Ms. Flowers then obtained a law degree from the University of Tulsa. While in law school, she completed an internship in the institution's Boesche Legal Clinic and developed an early passion for serving the low-income population.
Ms. Flowers is licensed to practice by the Texas and Oklahoma Bar Associations and has been admitted to several federal courts, including the U.S. District Court for the Northern, Eastern, Southern, and Western Districts of Texas, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the Supreme Court of the United States. Ms. Flowers is also an accredited attorney through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
