A Nigerian born American lawyer, Mr. Umoke initially obtained a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from Nigeria's preeminent premier university, the University of Ibadan in 2013 and a Barrister-at-Law Qualifying Certificate from The Nigerian Law School, Abuja in 2014. In 2015, he moved to the United States to further his legal education. In 2018, he earned his Juris Doctor degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law where he received multiple awards and scholarships.
Throughout the following two years, Mr. Umoke found success and professional fulfillment representing low income New Yorkers in eviction defense proceedings as a staff attorney at the Queens office of Legal Services NYC, which is a nonprofit organization that provides free civil legal services to low-income individuals. In 2020, he established his own law firm, Umoke Law, LLC., and flourished while representing property buyers and sellers in the state of New Jersey. In 2021, he was appointed and sworn-in as Deputy Attorney General for the State of New Jersey in the Department of Law and Public Safety. In this current position, he represents the State of New Jersey in various legal capacities.
Throughout his career, Mr. Umoke has contributed his expertise in environmental law and human rights law through publications in reputable professional and academic journals including The Nigerian National Human Rights Commission Journal, The Lord Justice Journal, and Westlaw. He is particularly proud to have been among the team of student attorneys that assisted with the designation of the Niagara River Corridor as a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention in 2019. As an active member of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Newark, New Jersey, Mr. Umoke also volunteers as a lecturer and center coordinator for the church's School of Disciples. He is also an active senior member of the United States Air Force Auxiliary, Civil Air Patrol.
