After excelling as a professor of mathematics and statistics for nearly 25 years, Dr. Langford retired from California State University, Chico in 2006. During this time, he was additionally active as the chairman of the department from 1999 to 2001. With more than 40 years in the field of education to his credit, Dr. Langford formerly flourished at the University of Maine in Orono, with which he advanced from an associate professor to professor of mathematics between 1969 and 1982.
Furthermore, Dr. Langford taught mathematics courses at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California as an assistant professor from 1962 to 1967. Prior to teaching, he was employed as a research specialist in the autonetics division at North American Aviation (NAA) in Anaheim, California from 1963 to 1964. As a leader in academia, he has served as a visiting associate professor at California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, a visiting scholar at the University of California Berkeley and a visiting distinguished professor at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. Dr. Langford was also appointed as a visiting associate with Daniel H. Wagner Associates Inc., an operations research, mathematics and software development company.

Covering a range of topics in both mathematics and statistics, he enjoyed collaborating on many of these papers with his fellow colleagues. Dr. Langford also found success with the American Mathematical Monthly as a collaborating editor between 1969 and 1971 and an associate editor until 1975.
Dr. Langford initially majored in chemistry during his studies, having earned a Bachelor of Science in mathematics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1959. He continued his studies at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, from which he obtained a Master of Science in mathematics in 1960 and a Doctor of Philosophy in mathematics in 1963. Presented with a Lester R. Ford Award from the Mathematical Association of America in 1971, Dr. Langford was notably selected for inclusion in the 63rd edition of Who's Who in America.
